Hi! I’m an assistant to the Ask Ayurveda doctors. I’ve carefully reviewed your question.
I will explain your father’s symptoms through the Ayurvedic perspective so you understand what is happening in his body as a whole.
Knee pain, especially in older age, is often linked to Vata imbalance in Ayurveda. Vata governs movement and dryness in the body, and when out of balance, it can lead to joint pain and stiffness. The degeneration of joints is further exacerbated by the natural drying and weakening processes associated with aging, which are Vata-dominant.
Stiffness in the knees indicates a possible accumulation of Ama, or toxins, which can be due to poor digestion or lifestyle factors. This can block the natural flow of nutrients and energy to the joints, leading to discomfort and limited mobility.
This pattern of symptoms suggests a systemic imbalance where the body’s natural lubricants are reduced, and the joints are not receiving adequate nourishment. Stress, poor diet, and lifestyle choices like smoking and alcohol can further aggravate Vata, leading to more severe symptoms.
