​Osteoarthritis (Sandhivata): Primarily a Vata disorder where the “air” element causes dryness and wear in the joints.
​Rheumatoid Arthritis (Amavata): Caused by Ama (toxic metabolic waste) accumulating in the joints, leading to intense inflammation.
​Garuga pinnata is considered Vata-Kapha Hara (reduces Vata and Kapha), helping to clear “Ama” and reduce the swelling and stiffness associated with these conditions. ​ ​Benefits ​Anti-inflammatory: Contains bioactive compounds like lupeol and \beta-amyrin that inhibit inflammatory pathways.
​Analgesic: Traditionally used as a decoction to ease pain and improve joint mobility.
​Topical Relief: Bark paste is often applied externally to reduce localized edema (swelling).
​Risks: ​Gastric Irritation: High doses of the bark powder may cause nausea, stomach cramps, or diarrhea.
​Skin Sensitivity: Direct application of the resin can cause contact dermatitis in sensitive individuals.
​Limited Data: There is minimal long-term clinical data on its safety for chronic use alongside modern RA medications.
​ ​For chronic joint pain and inflammation, Kerala Ayurveda Pharmacy recommends RG Forte Tablets. This formulation targets the root cause (Ama) while providing relief from stiffness.
​Medicine: RG Forte Tablet Dose: 1 to 2 tablets twice daily after food with lukewarm water.

Better approach is to use well-established and safer Ayurvedic support along with your current treatment. Yograj Guggulu – 1 tablet twice daily after food Shallaki (Boswellia) tablet – 1 tablet twice daily These are more reliable for reducing pain and stiffness.
