Frequent periods in the teenage years, especially soon after menarche, can happen and are sometimes considered within the range of normalcy as your body adjusts to its new rhythms. Typically, menstrual cycles range from 21 to 35 days, so a cycle of 20 to 23 days might not be concerning. However, consistency in length and any discomfort or excessive bleeding should be monitored to rule out underlying concerns. The loose motions you’re experiencing from the iron supplements could be due to the formulation of the iron itself, which sometimes irritates the digestive system. You might want to try taking them with food to see if that helps ease the symptoms. If it continues to be a problem, consult a healthcare provider who might recommend a different form of iron supplement, such as ferrous gluconate or a slower-release formulation, which might be gentler on your stomach. In terms of Ayurveda, focus on balancing your Pitta dosha, which can be responsible for the frequent cycles and any associated discomfort. Incorporating foods that are cooling and Pitta-pacifying like cucumber, melons, and aloe vera juice can be helpful. Avoiding spicy, acidic, or overly salty foods might reduce any imbalances that might have arisen. Herbal teas like chamomile and mint have soothing effects, which could assist in balancing your system. At this stage, maintaining a balanced agni, or digestive fire, by eating meals at regular intervals, is important. Consuming warm, freshly cooked meals supports digestion and overall body harmony. Practices like pranayama (breathing exercises) help in calming the mind and body. Remember to consult a doctor for any severe or persistent symptoms, and they can provide guidance tailored to your specific needs and ensure that everything's on the right track with your health.
