Puffiness around eyes, upper cheeks and collar bone, especially with slight lymph node inflammation, can indicate water retention often related to an imbalance of Kapha dosha. This is quiet common, especially post-menopause as the body's natural functions tend to fluctuate. Addressing this requires a comprehensive approach involving diet, lifestyle, and some healing practices. Starting with your diet, focus on reducing salty and processed foods, as they can contribute to water retention. Opt for a diet rich in fresh fruits, vegetables, and whole grains, aim for those that are light and easy to digest. Consider incorporating bitter, pungent, and astringent flavors which are known to alleviate Kapha imbalance. Herbs like ginger and turmeric can be helpful due to their anti-inflammatory and diuretic properties. Daily routine should include movement, even a simple 20- to 30-minute walk can aid in reducing bloating and stimulate the lymphatic system. Yoga and Pranayama practices specifically focusing on poses such as Viparita Karani (legs-up-the-wall) and deep diaphragmatic breathing can further support smooth lymphatic drainage. You might want to give dry brushing a try, it’s a gentle way to stimulate the lymphatic system – use a natural bristle brush, strokes should be towards the heart. Start with a few minutes daily before a bath. Incorporating self-massage with a lighter oil like sesame might aid in reducing the puffiness. Apart from lifestyle changes, sipping warm water throughout the day can help detoxify the lymphatic system, increase your intake of water but be mindful of not drinking big amounts at once. Importantly, ensure you're regularly checking this with your healthcare professional since it's crucial to rule out any underlying conditions needing immediate medical attention. Addressing the root cause ensures puffiness is managed effectively, without masking a possible serious condition.
