Lichen Planus spots on skin and inside my mouth - #21703

Ashwin

I’ve been noticing purple, flat spots on my wrists and ankles for the past 6 months, and some white, lacy patches with purple spots inside my mouth. My doctor said it’s lichen planus, which might be related to stress or an immune system issue. The spots on my skin are itchy, and the ones in my mouth make it uncomfortable to eat spicy food.

Lichen planus has roots in both stress and immune system imbalances, according to Ayurvedic principles, it might be related closely to a Pitta and Vata imbalance. These imbalances might cause inflammation and dryness in your body. Addressing the root cause can help mitigate symptoms. Let's talk about diet first. Incorporating cooling, soothing foods can help. Favor sweet, bitter, and astringent tastes. Including ghee, aloe vera juice, and a variety of vegetables like cucumbers and leafy greens is recommended. Avoid spicy, sour, and excessively salty tastes as they can exacerbate Pitta dosha, potentially worsening symptoms like mouth discomfort. Drink tender coconut water to soothe inflammation and keep your body hydrated. Managing stress is vital here as it's part of your condition's root cause. Practice daily routines of calming yoga and pranayama, focusing on Nadi Shodhana (alternate nostril breathing) which is effective in balancing both Vata and Pitta. Aim for consistency in a sleep pattern to ensure adequate rest and lessen stress levels. Consider topical applications. A mixture of coconut oil and turmeric (haridra) can be applied gently to the affected skin areas, which might help alleviate itching and reduce inflammation. Rinse your mouth with a natural concoction like lukewarm water mixed with a pinch of turmeric and rock salt for its natural antiseptic properties. Ayurvedic herbs such as Ashwagandha and Manjistha can be supportive. They can be taken as capsules or in powdered form - twice a day with warm water. They might enhance the immune system by reducing stress and purifying the blood. Remember to seek a practitioners guidance if symptoms get worse. It's essential to keep monitoring your condition regularly. Sometimes persistence with Ayurvedic practices, combined with patience, leads to better results.
