how to apply attar - #23561

Claire

I am really curious about how to apply attar because I recently got a beautiful bottle of it from a friend who traveled abroad. The scent is just divine, but I’m a bit lost on the proper way to use it. I’m not even sure if I need to apply it with my fingers or use a cotton swab. The bottle doesn't have a spray — it’s more of a roll-on type, I guess??? Last weekend, I put a few drops on my wrist and rubbed them together, thinking that would work. But then, I read that you're supposed to dab it on pulse points! Could someone tell me how to apply attar properly? Like, should I only put it on my wrists and neck, or can I use it anywhere? I keep seeing different tips online but it’s kinda confusing. Oh, and are there certain scents that work better for day vs night? I don’t wanna smell overpowering during the day, you know? Thanks a bunch!

Applying attar, which is a type of concentrated perfume, can enhance your personal scent beautifully if done correctly. The fact that it doesn't have a spray mechanism means you'll need to be a bit more hands-on, or rather, wrist-on, with your application. Since you mentioned it’s a roll-on, using it this way is quite straightforward and no need for cotton swabs. For applying attar, less is often more, as these perfumes are potent. Begin by gently rolling the attar onto your pulse points because these areas naturally emit warmth, enhancing the fragrance's projection. The common pulse points you can consider are the inner wrists, the base of the throat (at your neck), behind your ears, and even your inner elbows. With the richness of attars, a small dab can go long way. It's generally recommended not to "rub" your wrists together after applying, as this can break down the fragrance molecules and diminish the scent. Just a light, single dab on each wrist will suffice. Regarding day and night application, lighter and fresher scents like sandalwood or jasmine can be more suitable for daytime wear – they are generally softer and won't overpower in social situations. For evenings, you might opt for richer, deeper fragrances like oud or musk, which can project more and last longer into the night. Feel free to experiment a little bit locations and amounts until you find what works uniquely well for you. Remember, a little trial within your own body's chemistry can reveal what’s truly best. As there are myriad attar scents out there, your personal scent profile for day and night could be an enjoyable journey of discovery. Enjoy your fragrant experience, and take advantage of the exotic nature of attars. Just bear in mind the potency, especially in professional settings, as some workplaces might have scent-free policies.
