how to store aloe vera gel - #23595

Ava

I am dealing with a bit of a situation here regarding how to store aloe vera gel! I got this huge aloe vera plant from my neighbor last summer, and I absolutely love it. I often use the fresh gel for my skin, especially when I get sunburns. But, I’m not always able to use it right away, you know? Sometimes I'm at work or out, and it just goes bad too quickly. My friend told me I could store it, which made me super excited, but I have no clue how to store aloe vera gel. Like, can I just put it in the fridge? Or is that not the right way? I read somewhere about freezing it, but isn’t that a bit weird? Also, how long does it last anyway? I really don't wanna waste the gel, especially since I hear it’s packed with amazing benefits!! Any tips on how to store aloe vera gel will be super helpful! Thanks a bunch!

Storing aloe vera gel can indeed extend its shelf life and allow you to benefit from its wonderful properties over time. When you're ready to acquire the gel from the plant, slice the leaf and scoop out the gel carefully. First and foremost, storing it in the fridge is definitely an option! Just make sure to place it in an airtight container to prevent any moisture loss and protect from air exposure. Typically, refrigerated aloe vera gel can last about a week before it starts losing its potency. But if you're looking for longer storage, freezing is a great method, and really, not weird at all! To freeze, you can use an ice cube tray to make individual portions. This way, you can easily pop out a cube as needed. Once frozen, transfer the cubes into a freezer-safe bag for longer storage. Frozen aloe vera gel can last up to six months or even longer while retaining its beneficial properties. One thing to consider is keeping the gel as close to its natural form as possible. That means avoiding unnecessary additives or preservatives which can diminish the natural benefits which you mentioned you valued. In Ayurveda, we emphasize the prana, or life force, which is retained in fresh and naturally sourced materials. Aloe's cooling properties are particularly soothing for pitta-related imbalances, such as skin inflammation or sunburns. Some folks add a little bit of Vitamin E oil or honey before refrigerating, which can add to the preservatives and maintain moisturizing properties, but ensure that any additives align with your skin’s needs and dosha balance. So while storing aloe can definitely preserve its potent benefits, it's important to listen to your body's response to it too!
