In Ayurvedic terms, trigeminal neuralgia can be associated with aggravated Vata dosha, affecting the facial region and nerves. While you have found some temporary relief with Brihat Vata Chintamani, it appears there’s a recurrance of symptoms. Managing Vata imbalance holistically requires addressing both lifestyle and dietary factors along with medication.
To begin with, let’s focus on dietary modifications. Emphasize on consuming warm, cooked meals, ideally seasoned with spices like ginger, cinnamon, and cumin, which aid in pacifying Vata. Avoid cold and raw foods, which might aggravate Vata. Consider including ghee in your diet, as it’s nourishing and helps in soothing the nerves.
Your daily routine should incorporate practices that help stabilize Vata. Consider engaging in daily oil massages (Abhyanga) with sesame oil, which is particularly grounding for Vata dosha. Regular pranayama (breathing exercises) like Nadi Shodhana (alternate nostril breathing) can also be calming for the nervous system. Try to establish a regular sleep schedule to support your body’s natural rhythms.
For herbal support, Ashwagandha is often recommended to help strengthen the nervous system and reduce stress. Consult with a qualified Ayurvedic practitioner for appropriate dosages and formulations. They may recommend supplements like Mahavishgarbha oil for massage on the face.
If the pain persists or becomes more severe, it’s crucial to consult a neurologist or healthcare professional. Trigeminal neuralgia can be complex to manage and sometimes needs more integrated approaches beyond Ayurveda. Sudden facial weakness and persistent pain are concerns that may require immediate medical evaluation to rule out other neurological issues. It’s always better to be cautious about this to prevent complications.
Following a holistic approach might support your healing journey, but always remember that complex conditions sometimes need a blend of both traditional and modern methods.
