Doctors' responses

-About 40–50% of people with xanthelasma have normal lipid levels. Other contributors: Genetics (very common) Local fat metabolism in eyelid skin Age-related skin changes Insulin resistance (even without diabetes) So the idea that “it only happens because of cholesterol” is a myth. -It can be removed (best: laser or radiofrequency) -Recurrence is possible but NOT guaranteed (many never get it again) But no medicine can remove it.

Xanthelasma is a yellow fat deposit near the eyelids. It can be removed by small medical procedures. may remove it by surgery (cutting and removing), laser treatment, or chemical peel. Small deposits are usually treated with laser or chemical peel, and bigger deposits may need surgery. Cholesterol control is important because the swelling can come back.
