Sciatica usually happens when the sciatic nerve is irritated, and it can definitely cause that lower back and leg pain you’re talking about. From an Ayurvedic view, it could be an imbalance in the Vata dosha, which can cause the kind of nerve-related issues you’re experiencing.

First thing, rest is vital, though it sounds you might be getting more than you want by necessity. But rest in a way that supports healing, like, not slouching on a soft couch but rather laying easy on a firm surface.

Diet-wise, you really want to include warming and lubricating foods. Think of dishes like a warm moong dal khichadi or soupy, easy-to-digest meals. Avoid cold, dry, and raw stuff which can aggravate Vata.

Abhyanga, or oil massage, could really help. Sesame oil, heated just a touch, can be fantastic. Massage it gently onto your lower back and legs before taking a warm bath. Even 15 mins of this daily might do wonders for improving circulation and relieving pain.

Make sure your digestive fire, or agni, is in balance too. Regular eating habits, and some ginger tea before meals can help that. You want to keep digestion good, as poor agni can lead to toxin buildup that worsens pain.
