Osteoarthritis with pain in multiple joints and DDD (degenerative disc disease) is usually related to aggravated Vata dosha in Ayurveda, along with gradual degeneration of joints, cartilage, and muscles. Since your pain is chronic and severe, treatment should focus on reducing inflammation, nourishing joints, improving mobility, and slowing degeneration naturally — without long-term harmful side effects. Ayurvedic Approach for Long-Term Relief Internal Ayurvedic Medicines Yograj Guggulu – helps reduce stiffness, joint pain, and improves movement Mahayograj Guggulu – useful in chronic degenerative arthritis with weakness Dashmool Kwath – reduces inflammation and Vata aggravation Ashwagandha – improves strength, fatigue, sleep, and muscle support Shallaki (Boswellia) – natural anti-inflammatory for knees, hips, and back pain Maharasnadi Kwath – beneficial for back pain, shoulder pain, and stiffness These are generally considered safer for long-term support when taken properly and according to body constitution. External Therapies Regular Ayurvedic external therapy gives excellent support in chronic osteoarthritis: Warm Mahanarayan oil or Dhanwantharam oil massage daily Mild heat fomentation after massage Panchakarma therapies like: Abhyanga Kati Basti Janu Basti Patra Pinda Sweda Basti therapy (very effective for chronic Vata disorders) Diet & Lifestyle Follow a strict Vata-pacifying routine: Prefer: Warm freshly cooked foods Cow ghee in small quantity Garlic, ginger, turmeric, methi Moong dal, soups, soft cooked vegetables Warm water throughout the day Avoid: Cold foods and drinks Excess packaged food Sour curd at night Excess sugar and refined flour Long sitting or overexertion
