In Tamil, scalds are referred to as “இரத்தினம்” (irathinam). Scalds occur when the skin is exposed to hot liquids or steam, leading to burns that can cause redness, pain, and blisters. Ayurveda suggests immediate cooling and soothing of the affected area to prevent further damage and reduce inflammation. Aloe Vera is highly recommended due to its cooling, anti-inflammatory, and healing properties. Applying Aloe Vera gel or fresh aloe leaf directly onto the burn can help reduce pain and promote healing. Turmeric, known for its antiseptic properties, can be mixed with water to form a paste and applied to the burn to prevent infection. Coconut oil, with its moisturizing and healing properties, can be applied after the initial cooling period to help with skin regeneration. It is important to apply these remedies soon after the burn to avoid further irritation. Apply the treatments 2-3 times a day for optimal healing. In Ayurveda, treating scalds involves soothing the skin, reducing inflammation, and promoting healing with natural remedies. Let’s dive into it.

Applying cool water immediately after the incident is crucial to reduce the heat and prevent deep-tissue damage. But don’t use ice or extremely cold water as it may worsen the injury. Now, regarding those natural remedies you mentioned – Aloe Vera, turmeric, and coconut oil – they can be really helpful.

Aloe Vera gel is known for its cooling and anti-inflammatory properties, helping soothe burned skin. You can apply fresh aloe gel directly onto the scald 2-3 times a day. It’s best if you wait until the initial burning sensation subsides a bit before applying anything. Also, turmeric, with its antiseptic benefits, can be mixed with a bit of coconut oil to create a paste and applied gently. But make sure the scald isn’t blistered, otherwise this may not be comfy or safe.
