A few months ago, my brother was in a terrible motorcycle accident that left him with a spinal cord injury. At first, we thought he would just need some time to heal, but after multiple tests and consultations, the doctors told us that he has Brown-Séquard syndrome. None of us had ever heard of it before, but from what they explained, it means that one side of his body has significant weakness or paralysis, while the other side has lost sensation but still experiences pain. It’s been an incredibly difficult journey for him and for all of us trying to support him. Right now, his biggest struggle is dealing with the strange combination of symptoms. He has trouble moving his right leg and arm, but at the same time, he feels extreme burning and tingling pain on his left side, especially in his leg. It doesn’t make sense to him—how can he have pain in a part of his body that he can’t even feel properly? The doctors have prescribed painkillers and physical therapy, but so far, there hasn’t been much improvement. He’s frustrated because even though he’s doing the exercises, the weakness on one side doesn’t seem to be getting better, and the nerve pain on the other side is sometimes unbearable. The worst part is that no one can tell us if he’ll recover fully. The doctors say that some people regain a lot of function over time, but others don’t see much improvement at all. It’s like we’re stuck in this uncertainty, not knowing whether things will ever go back to normal for him. We’re now looking into alternative treatments, and I’ve heard that Ayurveda has therapies that focus on nerve healing and muscle recovery. I want to know—are there any Ayurvedic treatments that can help with Brown-Séquard syndrome? Can herbs or specific oils support nerve regeneration and help with the imbalance in sensation and movement? Also, is there anything natural that can reduce nerve pain without relying so much on pain medications?
