The hip joint is a vital ball-and-socket joint where the femur (thigh bone) fits into the acetabulum of the pelvis, allowing smooth movement. Cartilage cushions the joint, while synovial fluid lubricates it. Stiffness and pain can arise due to degeneration (arthritis), Vata imbalance (which dries up lubrication), or strain in surrounding muscles and tendons. Ayurveda recommends Mahanarayan oil massage to nourish the joints and ease stiffness, while Ashwagandha helps strengthen muscles and reduce inflammation. Avoid prolonged sitting, sudden jerky movements, and excessive strain. Gentle yoga, including Pawanmuktasana and Baddha Konasana, can improve flexibility.
