My wife age 68 years. Had brain stroke, hemoarrage due to high BP and paralysis on left leg and hand. Now good movements but can't stand due to pain and stiffness in leg.Musculoskeletal pain, stiffness in left leg and left hand after paralysis. There is knee joint and amnkle pain while standing, so can not stand. Legs are having sufficient muscles. Allopathic treatment to prevent seizures may occur and neurotropic vitamins are continued.

Managing post-stroke pain and stiffness requires a holistic approach in Ayurveda, focusing on balancing Vata dosha which is often aggravated during such conditions. Vata governs movement and nerve functions, when impaired, may cause pain and stiffness. Begin with Abhyanga, a daily oil massage using warm sesame or Mahanarayan oil, as it is excellent for pacifying Vata. Gently massage the affected leg and hand, focusing on joints like knee and ankle, for 10-15 minutes. After massage, a warm herbal bath with Dashamula decoction can further help soothe stiffness and pain.

Diet plays a crucial role in balancing Vata. Incorporate warm, cooked foods that are naturally oily and grounding. Moong dal khichadi cooked with ghee, vegetables like carrots, sweet potatoes or pumpkin will provide nourishment and strength. Avoid dry, raw, and cold foods, as they can aggravate Vata further. Ensure adequate hydration with warm herbal teas, such as ginger or tulsi.

Regular supervised exercises are paramount. Start with gentle passive movements, gradually transitioning to active rehabilitation exercises focusing on range of motion and strenth. Yoga asanas beneficial for Vata imbalance include Tadasana, Vrikshasana and simple seated forward bends. Always following with deep breathing exercises, like Nadi Shodhana or Anulom Vilom, to enhance oxygenation and nerve function.

Herbal formulations like Ashwagandha tablets or Churna can support muscle and nerve recovery, by reducing stress and improving circulation. It’s advisable to consult with both Ayurvedic practitioner and allopathic doctor before any new supplements due to ongoing medications.

Stress management is pivotal. Encourage daily relaxation activities—meditation or mindful breathing—to ensure mental peace and emotional balance. Remember, gradual improvement is expected. Ensure consistent & compassionate care.
