How to clear bowels regularly - #20199
Medha
Ever since I was very young, I had this issue of clearing my bowel movement. I have tried drinking a lot water, and also consulted doctors but nothing works. It looks seasonal. Basically, during autumn and spring, there's no issues regarding my bowel movements. But everything worsens during summer.

- **Cooling herbs** – Coriander, fennel, and mint.
- **Ghee** – Helps lubricate the intestines and promotes smooth bowel movements.
❌ **Avoid:**
- Spicy, oily, and fried foods.
- Excess caffeine, tea, and alcohol, as they increase **Pitta** and cause dryness.

Hi Medha
Altered Bowel habits are more common in the summer due to several factors:
Dehydration – Hot weather increases sweating, which can lead to fluid loss and dehydration, making stools harder and more difficult to pass.
Dietary Changes – Less fiber-rich foods, which can slow digestion, more consumption of Cold drinks etc.
Reduced Physical Activity – Some people reduce outdoor activity due to heat, leading to slower bowel movements.
Electrolyte Imbalance – Excess sweating can cause loss of essential electrolytes.
Here are some effective home remedies to relieve constipation naturally:
Hydration & Fluids
Lukewarm Lemon Water (Morning Empty Stomach) – Stimulates bowel movements.
Soaked Chia or Flax Seeds (1 tbsp in Water Overnight) – High in fiber and omega-3, easing digestion.
Coconut Water – Natural electrolyte balance prevents dehydration-related constipation
Natural Laxatives
Soaked Raisins (Munakka) or Figs (Anjeer) – Eat 4–5 soaked overnight for easy bowel movement.
Papaya or Ripe Banana – Natural digestive enzymes soften stools.
Guava (With Seeds) & Pears – High in fiber
Curd or Buttermilk with Flaxseeds – Good bacteria improve gut health.
Medications
Triphala Powder (1 tsp with Warm Water at Night)
Ajwain (Carom Seeds) & Black Salt (1/2 tsp with Warm Water) – Relieves bloating and indigestion.
Fenugreek (Methi) Seeds (Soaked Overnight, Eaten in Morning) – Regulate digestion.

It seems that your bowel movement concerns could be stemming from a seasonal imbalance affecting your body's doshas. According to Ayurveda, summer is predominantly the Pitta dosha season, characterized by heat and intensity. Pitta can aggravate digestive metabolism if not managed well, potentially causing irregular bowel movements.
To tackle this issue, I'd suggest a careful look at your diet and daily habits. During summer, it's important to pacify Pitta's heat. Start by including cooling foods such as cucumber, watermelon, and coconut water in your diet. Avoid spicy, fried, or highly acidic foods that can irritate Pitta further. Try integrating more sweet, bitter, and astringent flavors, which are naturally cooling.
Hydration is key, but focus on sipping water throughout the day rather than drinking large amounts at once. You might benefit from drinking amla juice or aloe vera juice in the morning, as they're known for their cooling and digestive properties. Simply take 20-30 ml on an empty stomach.
Additionally, establish a consistent routine. Wake up early in the morning around sunrise— this aligns with the body's natural rhythms and promotes healthy digestion. Practicing yoga or Pranayama, particularly Chandra Bhedana (left-nostril breathing), can help balance Pitta by cooling the body down and promoting relaxation.
Consider Triphala, an ancient ayurvedic remedy, which can aid regular bowel movements. Take it at night, about 30 minutes before bed, mix half a teaspoon in warm water. Ensure to check with your healthcare provider before adding this to your routine.
During these Pitta-exacerbating months, wearing loose cotton clothing and spending time in nature can have a calming effect. Ensure you're not overstrained mentally, as stress can impact digestion.
Remember, Ayurveda is about customizing to your specific needs. If symptoms persist or worsen, seeking deeper personalized Ayurvedic consultation may be necessary.
