Alright, skin issues can be really troubling and while I can't diagnose your mom's condition without seeing it firsthand or reviewing an image, let's look into some common possibilities based on your description. When considering skin conditions like dryness and itchiness—particularly on hands and legs—it might be linked to imbalances in the body's doshas, particularly Vata, which governs dryness in the body.
Here's what you can do to help improve her situation:
1. **Moisturizing Routine**: Encourage her to apply a natural moisturizer like coconut oil or sesame oil twice a day, especially after bathing. These oils not only soothe the skin but also help retain moisture.
2. **Warm Water Baths**: Avoid hot water, which can exacerbate dryness. Warm or lukewarm water is kinder to the skin and helps maintain its natural moisture balance.
3. **Diet**: Enhance her diet with foods that pacify Vata. Think warm, cooked, oily, and nourishing foods. Soups, stews—adding ghee (clarified butter) is beneficial. Avoid dry, raw, or cold foods.
4. **Hydration**: Ensure she drinks plenty of water throughout the day to keep her skin hydrated from the inside. Warm herbal teas like ginger tea can be good as well.
5. **Herbal Remedies**: Using a paste of neem leaves can help soothe itchiness. Simply grind fresh neem leaves with a little water to form a paste and apply it on the affected area.
6. **Allergen Avoidance**: Identify any products or materials that might have caused the reaction - new soap, detergents, or even new jewelry could be a culprit. It’s best to avoid them until the condition improves.
However, if her symptoms persist or worsen, it is crucial to consult a dermatologist. They will provide a proper diagnosis and treatment plan and can take into account if it’s due to more severe issues needing urgent care.
While Ayurveda can address many conditions naturally, do not delay professional medical advice for something persistent or intensifying.
