In Ayurveda, adenoid problems can often be addressed by focusing on balancing the doshas, particularly Kapha dosha, which tends to manifest as excess mucus and congestion. Given the chronic nature of your daughter’s condition, it’s crucial to approach this holistically, considering lifestyle, diet, and specific ayurvedic practices.

Firstly, it’s important to limit Kapha-aggravating foods. This includes reducing dairy products, excessive sweet or sour foods, and heavy, greasy meals. Instead, aim to incorporate light, easily digestible foods such as warm soups, steamed vegetables, and grains like quinoa or barley. Including spices like ginger, black pepper, and turmeric can help to stimulate digestion and clear mucus.

Encourage your daughter to maintain a consistent routine, going to bed and waking up at the same time each day, to promote stable biorhythms. Practicing calming yoga postures or simple pranayama exercises like Nadi Shodhana (alternate nostril breathing) can assist in improving nasal passage blockage over time.

Ayurvedic herbs, which include Tulsi and licorice root, may provide support as well. Tulsi is helpful for respiratory health, while licorice acts as a soothing agent for inflammation. These can be taken as herbal teas or prescribed ayurvedic formulations, but it’s important to consult with an ayurvedic practitioner for accurate dosages and formulations tailored to her specific constitution and needs.

For some cases, nasya therapy, an ayurvedic nasal treatment, might be suggested by a practitioner. However, given that the adenoids are significantly enlarged and causing substantial obstruction, close consideration alongside surgical advice is prudent. In cases where allopathic intervention is necessary to ensure breathing passages are open, it’s important not to delay effective medical treatment.

While Ayurveda aims at treating the root causes and maintaining balance, immediate breathing issues require resolution. Therefore, a collaborative approach—consulting with both allopathic doctors and ayurvedic practitioners—is advisable to determine the safest and most effective path forward for your daughter’s health.
