Ayurveda can indeed provide support for improving hearing issues through balanced lifestyle and herbal remedies. At the age of 61, hearing loss can be related to the normal aging process, known as presbycusis, but also could involve factors like dosha imbalances. To address this, let’s consider dietary, lifestyle, and specific Ayurvedic treatments.

First, pay attention to your diet. Include foods that pacify Vata dosha, as imbalances there are often linked to hearing problems. Consume warm, unctuous foods; cook with ghee, find comfort in soups and stews with plenty of warming spices like cumin, ginger, and turmeric. Avoid excessively dry, cold, and raw foods as they can aggravate Vata.

Next, incorporate daily routine practices. Self-abhyanga, or oil massage, can be quite beneficial. Use warm sesame oil, an effective remedy for pacifying Vata, and gently massage it into your ears as well as your scalp in the morning before a warm shower. Adding a little garlic oil into both ear canals can also support ear health, but do this under guidance of an Ayurvedic practitioner to ensure safety.

Herbal formulations may also aid you. Triphala is one such remedy, known to support sensory perceptions, including hearing. Take one teaspoon of Triphala churna with warm water before bed. However, tailor such remedies to your specific dosha and body constitution, ideally with the support of a practitioner.

Maintain a peaceful lifestyle, manage stress through relaxation techniques like yoga or pranayama, emphasizing calm breathing. Ensure a regular sleep pattern, as restorative sleep is important for sensory health.

Remember, if your condition doesn’t improve or you experience any sudden changes in hearing, seek an immediate consultation with an audiologist or ENT specialist. Regular check-ups can catch anything that requires more direct intervention.
