is homemade kajal good for eyes - #36966

Violet

I am really curious about homemade kajal and if it’s good for eyes. Last month, I decided to try making my own kajal after seeing a friend rave about it. I’ve used store-bought ones before, but I wanted something more natural, you know? My niece always gets rashes or irritation from commercial makeup, so I thought I’d be smarter and go the homemade route, right? Anyway, I followed a recipe online, mixing ghee and some herbs, and it turned out a bit clumpy, but I used it anyway. Now, here’s my issue. I’ve been using it for about two weeks, and I noticed my eyes are watering more than usual. They also feel heavier, almost like there’s something always in them. I really want to know if homemade kajal is good for eyes or if I did something wrong. Are there particular ingredients I should avoid? A part of me thinks maybe I should stop using it, but I kinda love the way it looks. Plus, I read that natural stuff should be better for us overall, but this experience’s got me confused. Any tips or advice on how to make sure homemade kajal is good for eyes would be super helpful!

Homemade kajal has its roots in Ayurveda, and many prefer it for its natural ingredients. But, it’s crucial to know that just because something’s natural doesn’t always mean it’s safe for everyone. From an Ayurvedic standpoint, the eyes are governed by the Alochaka Pitta, a sub-dosha of Pitta which regulates perception and sight. Any irritation or excess watering of the eyes might indicate an imbalance, possibly with resources being contaminated or improperly prepared.

In your case, eye watering and the sensation of heaviness suggest that your homemade kajal might be causing some irritation. It’s possible that impurities may be inadvertently introduced during as you prepared it at home. Ghee, when pure, is generally soothing for the eyes but if not purified correctly, can cause reactions. Also, some herbs may trigger allergies or sensitivities.

When making kajal at home, extreme cleanliness is essential. Ensure your utensils are clean and the herbs used are fresh and pure. Avoid using ingredients that are too heavy like excess ghee. Mixing the right herbs is also critical—common choices are camphor or Triphala, which have a cooling and soothing effect. Caution with these powerful herbs, they can be potent and might irritate sensitive eyes.

If your eyes continue to water, I would recommend discontinuing using the kajal to see if it alleviates the symptoms. Persisting symptoms could indicate a reaction and that’s important to address. Instead, you could look into Ayurvedic formulations of kajal that are produced under controlled, sterile conditions and are safe for sensitive eyes.

Moreover, it’s beneficial to do a small patch test of any homemade mix on the inner skin of your forearm before applying it to sensitive areas like the eyes. This helps ascertain if you have any allergies to the components. If your eyes do not improve after stopping kajal, it’s sensible to consult a healthcare professional to rule out any underlying issues.

Finally, keeping the eyes nourished and healthy through a balanced diet, rich in nutrients and hydration, will help maintain healthy vision and eye health according to Ayurvedic principles.
