Recurrent corneal erosion can be troublesome, especially for young ones. In Ayurveda, eye disorders can emerge from an imbalance, primarily in the Pitta dosha, affecting the eyes, which are considered the pitta seat. A holistic approach involving diet, lifestyle, and gentle therapies could help manage this issue.

Start with Triphala wash. Triphala, a blend of three fruits - Haritaki, Bibhitaki, and Amalaki - is revered for its eye-nourishing properties. You can prepare an infusion by soaking Triphala powder overnight in water. In the morning, strain and use this water to gently rinse your son’s eyes. This can be done 2-3 times a week. It purifys and strengthens eye tissues.

Diet-wise, emphasize cooling, pitta-pacifying foods. Encourage him to consume more fresh fruits, vegetables, particularly those rich in vitamin A, like carrots, spinach, and sweet potatoes. Oily, spicy, and excessively sour foods can aggravate pitta, possibly worsening eye conditions, so it might be beneficial to moderate their consumption.

Ghee, particularly medicated ghee such as Triphala Ghrit, can be beneficial. A small quantity taken internally, if suitable under his health context, can provide nourishment to the eye tissues. However, consult an Ayurvedic practitioner before administering as it’s essential to consider his specific Prakriti and digestive capacity.

Make sure your son is getting adequate rest and avoids screen time, especially in low light conditions, as it can strain the eyes further. Simple blinking exercises every hour, where he closes his eyes for a few seconds, can relax the eye muscles and alleviate dryness.

Despite these measures, if the erosions persist or worsen, seeking an ophthalmologist’s advice is crucial to rule out underlying issues. Ayurveda should complement, not replace, conventional care when it comes to maintaining eye health, especially in such sensitive matters.
