is drishti good for eyes - #44778

Jayden

I am really looking for some advice here! Lately, I’ve been dealing with a lot of eye strain and dryness, especially after spending long hours on screens for work. I heard from a friend that this thing called drishti could help with eye health? Like, is drishti good for eyes? I've been trying some eye exercises, but they don’t seem to help much. Last weekend, I even went to this yoga class and the instructor talked about drishti and how it can improve focus and clarity for both mind and eyes. But honestly, I'm a bit confused. Is drishti good for eyes just in a metaphorical sense, or can it actually help with physical symptoms? I mean, I get the whole mind-body connection thing, but do good eyes really come from good drishti? Plus, I’ve tried herbal remedies, and some are okay but haven’t made much difference. If drishti can help, how should I start incorporating it into my daily routine? Is it like an actual practice, or just a concept? Would love to hear what others think or if you have any tips on implementing this drishti thing in a practical way!

Drishti, in the context of yoga and Ayurveda, encompasses both focus and attention. In terms of physical and mental health, drishti can influence eye health but more as a practice than an immediate remedy. While it’s beneficial for mind-body coordination, improving mental clarity, focus, and eye endurance, it’s not a direct cure for eye strain or dryness. These symptoms you are experiencing might be due to prolonged screen exposure, leading to a condition sometimes called Computer Vision Syndrome.

Combining drishti with other Ayurvedic practices could help in the long run. Engaging in drishti involves directing your gaze to a focal point, which can help relax eye muscles and reduce strain over time. You can begin incorporating this into your daily routine by dedicating few minutes daily to specific exercises: try gazing softly at a candle flame (trataka) for few minutes every day. This can potentially ease some strain by encouraging the eyes to focus on a natural, non-digital source of light.

Accompany drishti practices with Ayurvedic eye-friendly habits. Cooling eye washes using Triphala-infused water can be rejuvenating. Soak Triphala powder in water overnight, strain in morning, and use to wash your eyes gently. Additionally, consuming eye-soothing herbs like Amla and improving your diet by including healthy fats like ghee could benefit eye health. These improve ‘ojas’ and may balance the Pitta dosha, often responsible for inflammation and dryness in a digital-heavy lifestyle.

It’s important to manage screen time and recall to blink often. Regular breaks using the 20-20-20 rule (every 20 minutes, look at something 20 feet away for 20 seconds), are also very effective. If symptoms persist despite incorporating these practices, consulting an eye specialist might be necessary to rule out any deeper underlying issues.
