●What are Gandush and Kaval? Two methods of mouth cleansing are described in Ayurveda: • Gandush – filling the mouth with oil and holding it steadily. • Kaval – filling the mouth with oil and swishing or gargling. Both of these are processes of Urdhvajatru Shuddhi – ancient methods of removing toxins from the head, throat, and mouth.Which oil is suitable? Select oil according to your nature and dosha: • Sesame Oil: •Coconut Oil: Hot in nature, calms vata dosha, deeply detoxifies Cool in nature, calms pitta dosha, antibacterial •Mustard Oil: Removes phlegm, hot and pungent, provides strength Medicated oils infused with herbs can also be used in specific situations. ●Niacinamide Manjishtha When modern skincare can’t quite get enough of Niacinamide, Ayurveda offers Manjishtha, a divine rasayana that enhances beauty not just on the surface but on a spiritual level. At Desi Alchemist, we consider this herb a holistic remedy, purifying the blood and awakening the skin’s radiance from within. It’s not just an alternative, but part of a legacy that defines eternal beauty.

This is a common healing reaction after quitting tobacco. Mouth tissues become sensitive, so burning, red spots, dryness and bad smell can occur for few days. Do this: Rinse mouth with warm salt water 2–3 times daily Do coconut oil pulling for 5–10 minutes daily Drink water frequently to reduce dryness Avoid spicy, sour, hot foods completely for few days Avoid tea/coffee excess Diet: Take soft, cooling food Include curd in daytime, coconut water Eat banana, papaya Lifestyle: Brush gently with soft brush Do not use strong mouthwash Medicines: Yashtimadhu churna 1 gram twice daily with honey Gandhak rasayan 1 tablet twice daily Triphala churna 3 grams at night with warm water Apply: Honey + pinch turmeric on ulcers once daily This usually improves within 1–2 weeks as body heals. If ulcers increase, severe pain, or patches do not heal, get oral check-up done. Continue avoiding tobacco, healing will improve.

Stop tobacco immediately. ✓Ayurvedic Prescription 1. Yashtimadhu & Triphala Mouthwash (Kavala) Preparation: Boil 1 teaspoon of Yashtimadhu (Licorice) powder and 1/2 teaspoon of Triphala powder in 2 glasses of water until it reduces to half. Filter it and let it cool completely to room temperature. Usage: Hold and swish this cool decoction in your mouth for 2-3 minutes, then spit it out. Do this 3-4 times a day, especially after eating and brushing. 2. Oil Pulling (Gandusha) with Virgin Coconut Oil Usage: Take 1 tablespoon of pure, cold-pressed Coconut Oil (or pure Cow’s Ghee) in your mouth. Swish it around gently for 3-5 minutes, then spit it out (do not swallow). Time: Twice a day (Morning and Night). 3. Kamadudha Ras (Plain) Dosage: 1 tablet twice daily. Time: 30 minutes before meals, chewed slightly and taken with a little regular water. 4. Khadiradi Vati Dosage: 1 tablet, 3 to 4 times a day. Usage: Keep it in the mouth and let it dissolve slowly like a lozenge (do not chew or swallow it directly). ✓Crucial Dietary & Lifestyle Rules Food: Strictly avoid spicy, sour (lemon, curd, tomatoes), salty, and hot-temperature foods for the next 10 days. Stick to a soft, cooling diet like cold milk, sweet fruits, and soft rice/khichdi at room temperature. Brushing: Switch immediately to an ultra-soft/baby toothbrush and brush very gently to avoid irritating the raw red spots. Dr Gursimran Jeet Singh MD Panchakarma

This issue occurs due to the aggravation of Pitta and Vata doshas. Suddenly quitting a substance like tobacco—which is Ushna (hot) in nature and has been used for a long time—can further intensify this condition. Remedies : Hold coconut oil or Irimedadi Taila - in your mouth for 5 minutes daily. This helps soothe the burning sensation and heal red patches. Gargle with a lukewarm decoction (kadha) of Triphala or Yashtimadhu / mulethi Hydration: Drink water infused with coriander or fennel (saunf) throughout the day. Breath Freshener: Chew a mixture of roasted fennel and green cardamom to eliminate bad breath. Dietary Guidelines & Precautions Avoid: Spicy, salty, and excessively sour foods (such as lemon or vinegar). Ghee Intake: Increase your consumption of Ghee. Drinking a teaspoon of Ghee mixed in warm milk at night helps the body heal internally. These red patches can be a part of the physiological changes that occur after quitting tobacco. While they often resolve on their own over time, following these Ayurvedic practices will support the healing process
