I am really struggling with this persistent dry cough that just won’t go away! It started maybe a couple weeks ago, and at first, I thought it would just clear up like a normal cold, but nope, it's still here. I’ve already tried some home remedies like honey and warm water but honestly, they haven’t made a difference. I heard that diet can actually help, but I’m a bit clueless about what to eat in dry cough situations. Does anyone know what to eat in dry cough? The other day, I read somewhere that ginger and warm herbal teas might be good. Is that true? Should I avoid any specific foods, too? I’ve had my fair share of spicy food lately. I think that made it worse actually, but I can't resist my curries. Ugh. I just feel so lost! I don't know if I should cut anything out or add more stuff to my diet. What to eat in dry cough is really becoming a question I need answered. I honestly don’t want to keep dealing with this—it’s annoying and exhausting! If anybody’s gone through this and found certain foods that really helped, please share!

For persistent dry cough, consider certain diet adjustments can indeed help to alleviate symptoms. Ayurveda suggests that dry cough often results from an imbalance in the Vata dosha, which is further aggravated by dry and cold qualities. To pacify Vata and soothe the throat, focus on incorporating warm, moist, and mildly spiced foods.

Start with incorporating ginger as part of your daily routine. Fresh ginger tea can be very helpful, just, boil some slices of ginger in water for 10-15 minutes and sip this warm tea 2-3 times daily. You might find relief with this soothing herbal infusion. However, see that you dont overconsume, as this can intensify dryness if used excessively.

Warm, cooked foods such as soups or stews with a nourishing broth can be beneficial. Consider a simple mung bean soup, spiced with cumin and coriander, which can be easy to digest while providing essential nutrition without irritating your throat. Also, opt for warm milk with a pinch of turmeric at night - it’s a classic remedy known for its healing properties in Ayurveda.

Certain foods can indeed exacerbate the issue. Spicy, fried, and excessively dry foods should be avoided as they can intensify the cough. Similarly, cold foods or drinks can also be counterproductive. You mentioned spicy curries — it might be helpful to reduce the heat level you consume, and incorporate cooling herbs like coriander and fennel to balance them out.

Stay hydrated with plenty of warm fluids. However, avoid excessive caffeine and alcohol, as they tend to dehydrate the body, aggravating Vata. In terms of fruits, ripe bananas or pears can be a good choice as they’re naturally moist and lubricating.
