Doctors' responses

Hello‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌ 😊 I completely get that you have been experiencing these problems and symptoms of pain on chest and back continuously after pneumonia.

It may be a post-infection discomfort or even sharp ribcage pains accompanied by neck soreness and occasional tightness, and all of this can be not only physically but also emotionally distressing.

YOUR CONCERN AND PROBABLE CAUSES

Persistent chest and back pain post-pneumonia Sharp pains below the ribcage and in the neck Feeling of tightness or choking Kapha-Vata Prakriti

Probable Ayurvedic Causes:

- Residual Kapha and Vata imbalance after respiratory infection - Weakness in chest and intercostal muscles leading to pain - Incomplete clearance of Ama (toxins) post-infection - Possible inflammation in lungs and surrounding muscles

INTERNAL MEDICATION

1. Sitopaladi Churna – 1 tsp twice daily after food (Supports respiratory health, reduces Kapha congestion, improves breathing)

2. Agastya Rasayana – 1 tsp at night with warm milk (Strengthens lungs, relieves chest heaviness, balances Kapha-Vata)

3. Dashmoolarishta – 30 ml twice daily after food (Reduces nerve and muscular pain, strengthens chest and back)

4. Chyawanprash – 1 tsp in the morning (Boosts immunity, energizes body, helps recovery post-infection)

EXTERNAL CARE

Abhyanga (Oil Massage): Use Mahanarayan Taila Massage chest, back, shoulders, and neck gently for 10–15 minutes daily Relieves muscular pain and stiffness

Steam Inhalation: Boil water with Tulsi leaves + Ginger + Turmeric and breathe in the steam for 5–10 minutes Removes the leftover Kapha and helps the respiratory system to work normally

HOME REMEDIES

1. Turmeric and Honey mixed in warm water once daily – reduces inflammation

2. Ginger tea with black pepper – relieves throat tightness and chest heaviness

3. Gentle stretching of neck, shoulders, and upper back to relieve stiffness

4. Stay away from cold drafts and sudden temperature changes

DIET PLAN

✅ Include:

Warm, light, easily digestible foods Soups, dals, khichdi, steamed vegetables Herbs like Tulsi, Ginger, Black pepper Ghee in small quantities for lubrication and strength

❌ Avoid:

Cold and heavy foods Excess dairy and fried foods Ice-cold drinks or refrigerated food

LIFESTYLE TIPS

Practice deep breathing exercises and pranayama (like Anulom Vilom) daily Enough sleep to help the body heal Do not engage in strenuous activities until you are fully recovered If you feel up to it, take a moderate walk once a day De-stress through meditation or other relaxation methods

INVESTIGATIONS NEEDED

Chest X-ray (if not already done post-pneumonia)

Complete blood count (CBC) to check for lingering infection or inflammation

Pulmonary function tests if pain persists with respiration

Chest and back pain, tightness, and other discomforts after pneumonia can get much better within a period of 4 to 6 weeks with the help of regular Ayurvedic treatment, gentle physical exercises, and a proper diet.

Kind regards Dr Snehal ‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌Vidhate

Thank you for reaching and trusting this platform with your Health journey After pneumonia, it is very normal to have chest pain, back pain, pain, neck, tightness, and choking like feeling for few weeks. The infection settles, but the chest muscles, lung membranes and breathing channels, stay weak and irritated. In kapha vata Prakriti the leftover mucus dry inside the lungs and the chest wall becomes tight. So the pain keeps shifting from ribs to back to neck. This is not dangerous, but it means the lungs are still healing and need warmth, mild expectoration and strengthening. Start on Sithophaladi churna half teaspoon with honey twice daily Dashamoola kashayam 15 ML with warm water twice daily Take ginger tea twice daily Apply warm sesame oil over chest back and throat daily Do steam in elation once daily

If pain becomes severe breathlessness increases or fever returns, then follow up at chest physician

Chest and bak pain, especially after recovering from pneumonia, can sometimes be due to residual inflammation or stiffness in the respiratory channels. Given your Kapha-Vata prakriti, this could be manifesting as discomfort in these areas. To address this, it’s essential to focus on pacifying Vata and balancing Kapha doshas.

Firstly, warming your body internally can be beneficial. Try incorporating more spice with warming qualities like ginger and black pepper into your diet. Ginger tea, made by boiling fresh ginger slices in water and adding a dash of honey, can help soothe your throat and respiratory tract. Consuming this once or twice a day may provide relief.

Your chest and back pain might also benefit from topical application of warm sesame oil—known for its Vata balancing properties. Gently warm the oil and apply it in a circular motion on your chest and back. Leave it on for about 30 minutes before washing it off with warm water. Doing this at least three times a week may help reduce muscle tension and pain.

Breathing exercises such as Nadi Shodhana (alternate nostril breathing) and gentle pranayama can support lung function and help alleviate pain. Spend about 10 minutes daily practicing breathing, preferably early in the morning. This can calm Vata and improve respiratory health.

Ensure your diet is light and easy to digest, avoiding cold or heavy foods that increase Kapha. Warm soups with vegetables and mild spices can nourish without burdening your digestive fire, or agni.

Finally, if your symptoms persist or intensify, it is important to consult with a medical doctor to rule out any underlying issues requiring urgent attention. Ayurveda supports integrated care, and ensuring your well-being may sometimes necessitate conventional medical interventions.

The ongoing chest and back pain after pneumonia may indicate residual inflammation or tissue irritation, and it’s important to ensure that these symptoms aren’t linked to a more serious condition. Considering your kapha-vata prakriti, there’s a tendency for mucus accumulation and dryness in your physiological system. Let’s address this with some Siddha-Ayurvedic insights.

Firstly, pay attention to your respiratory health. Inhalation of steam infused with a few drops of eucalyptus or camphor can help alleviate chest congestion. Do this two to three times a day. Eucalyptus reduces kapha and aids in clearing pathways.

Next focus on balancing vata to aid the dry and residual inflammation. Apply lukewarm sesame or mustard oil mixed with a pinch of rock salt on the chest and back. This can soothe muscular tension and improve circulation. Gently massage and leave it on for about 30 minutes before washing off with warm water.

Incorporate warm turmeric milk into your nighttime routine. Turmeric’s anti-inflammatory properties can help reduce any residual lung inflammation. Add a pinch of black pepper, which enhances absorption.

Pranayama, specifically Anulom Vilom and Bhramari, practiced daily can aid in improving respiratory function and reduce stress that may be affecting your neck and ribcage tension. Perform these consistently but avoid overstraining yourself.

Maintain a kapha balancing diet—light, warm meals with ginger, black pepper, and coriander. Avoid cold, heavy foods, and keep hydration up with warm water or herbal teas like tulsi or ginger.

Should you experience any severe symptoms like difficulty breathing, persistent fever, or intense pain, please immediately consult a healthcare provider to rule out or address any complications post-pneumonia.
