Hi Bhooejedhur.

May I know about the accident, have you been using the crutches since then? How does your daily diet look like? Are you still taking medications?

Weight gain after limited mobility is common, but Ayurveda can help restore balance. Have you experienced any thyroid or metabolic issues? Since walking is limited, focus on a Kapha-pacifying diet—light, warm, and easily digestible meals. Avoid heavy, oily, and sweet foods. Include Triphala, Guggulu, and Punarnava to support metabolism and reduce water retention. Dry body massage (Udvartana) with herbal powders like Kolakulathadi Churna can help break down fat. Are you able to do seated yoga or breathing exercises? Kapalabhati and Bhastrika Pranayama stimulate metabolism even without intense movement. Hydration is key—warm water with lemon and honey in the morning aids digestion. Weight loss requires patience; gradual, sustainable changes will help. Have you checked blood sugar and cholesterol levels recently?

Gaining weight after an accident, I get it, it’s pretty common, and especially when mobility’s reduced. But reducing weight in your case is totally possible with some specific steps. Remember, we’re looking at a holistic approach, knowing that movement is limited, alright?

First thing first, let’s talk about your diet, which forms the core in weight management, especially when physical activity’s not an option. You gotta keep that digestive fire stoked - in Ayurveda, that’s your Agni. Focusing on easily digestible foods is your best bet. Think warm, freshly cooked meals. Start your day with warm water with a little lemon to kick start digestion.

You can include more light grains - like millet or barley - they’re kinda magical for shedding extra pounds. Add loadsa leafy greens, they’re sattvic, meaning they’re pure and balancing, nourish but won’t weigh you down. Avoid heavy, oily foods, processed stuff. Sugary drinks, they’re a definite no.

Spices like cumin, coriander, and turmeric are also helpful. They help regulate digestion. It’s surprising how powerful these spices can be! Honestly, a pinch of cumin in warm water post meals works wonders.

Now, considering you can’t walk much, let’s focus on what you can do: Pranayama and Meditation. Not just about relaxation, Naadi Shodhana (alternate nostril breathing) balances your system and can reduce stress, which is a sneaky weight gainer.

If you can consult an Ayurvedic practitioner in-person, some gentle massages like Udvartana are super beneficial for the Kapha body type that tends to gain weight. It’s a dry powder massage that helps to melt fat tissues.

Hydration’s key. Sip warm water or herbal teas, like ginger or cinnamon, throughout the day, this way you keep your system clean.

I know it’s not easy, for sure, but take small steps, celebrate small wins. Gradually, as you lose some weight, even your mobility may improve. Safety first, of course, so don’t hesitate to seek help if any suggestion feels too tough.

Thanks so much for clarifying this! I had no idea mixing meds could be risky. I'll stick to my doctor's meds and look into Ayurveda separately.
