For managing Rheumatoid Arthritis through Ayurveda, we must focus on balancing Vata dosha as it often gets aggravated in such cases, causing pain and stiffness. Understanding this, we can tailor a holistic approach for your mother.

Dietary Changes: Begin by incorporating warm, cooked foods into her diet, as these are easier to digest and help pacify Vata. Favor foods that are naturally sweet, sour, and salty; these tastes are known to reduce Vata. Include warm soups made from lentils and vegetables such as carrots and beets. Use warming spices like ginger, turmeric, cumin, and fenugreek to enhance digestion and reduce inflammation. Turmeric, especially, has anti-inflammatory properties; consider a daily turmeric milk (golden milk) at night to help relieve pain and stiffness. Avoid cold, dry, and raw foods, as well as excessive caffeine, as these can aggravate Vata.

Lifestyle Adjustments: Gentle, regular physical activity like yoga can be highly beneficial. Focus on stretching exercises to enhance flexibility and reduce joint stiffness. Restoring a regular sleep schedule is crucial, as Vata can increase with irregular sleeping patterns; aim for a consistent bedtime routine. The practice of oil massage (Abhyanga) using warm sesame or Mahanarayan oil can help soothe joints and improve circulation. This can be done daily before a warm bath.

Herbal Supplements: Ashwagandha and Guggul are Ayurvedic herbs that support joint health and may help in reducing inflammation and pain. Still, consult a qualified Ayurvedic practitioner before starting any herbal regimen to tailor the dosage precisely to her needs.

Hydration: Encourage proper hydration, preferably with warm water, to keep joints lubricated and to help flush out toxins from her system.

Stress Management: High stress levels can exacerbate symptoms, so techniques like meditation, pranayama (breathing exercises), and mindfulness practices are essential.

Finally, it’s advisable to consult with an Ayurvedic practitioner who can perform a detailed assessment of her dosha and recommend specific therapies or treatments tailored to her individual constitution. Always integrate these suggestions alongside any medical treatment she is currently receiving.
