is milk good for fatty liver - #23408

Bella

I am really confused about my diet lately, especially since my doctor said I have a fatty liver. I’ve read mixed stuff online about what I should eat or avoid. Like, some people say that is milk good for fatty liver and others totally disagree! I used to drink a lot of milk—like every morning in my coffee and sometimes with cereal—but now I'm not sure if I should cut it out. Honestly, I’ve been feeling kinda sluggish, and I notice I'm gaining weight around the belly area, which isn’t helping my stress levels. Ugh! I tried switching to almond milk, but I miss regular milk so much. Is milk really bad for fatty liver?? Like, is it okay in moderation or should I stay away completely? I also wonder if full-fat milk would be worse? I just want to know what I can have without making my situation worse. Any thoughts would be super helpful! Thanks!

Dealing with fatty liver can be a bit tricky, especially when sifting through all the different dietary advice out there. In terms of Ayurveda, balance and moderation are key components in managing this condition.

Regular cow’s milk is traditionally considered heavy and potentially clogging for the liver, which can be an issue if your digestive fire, or “agni,” is weak. This might contribute to the sluggishness you’re feeling. However, milk isn’t off-limits entirely. It can be consumed in moderation, preferrably in a diluted form. You could try adding some water or even spices like turmeric or ginger to make it easier on digestion and liver.

The debate about full-fat vs. low-fat milk often centers around calorie content and saturated fat, which might affect weight gain. If you’re already experiencing weight gain, choosing low-fat options might be a practical step.

Almond milk is a good alternative, being lighter and generally more liver-friendly. Since you’re missing regular milk, use it sparingly, perhaps as a treat, rather than a daily staple.

In Ayurveda, reducing “kapha” accumulation, which is often linked with sluggishness and weight in the belly, is crucial. Incorporate foods that increase metabolism, like ginger, black pepper, and other warming spices. Opt for more greens and fresh veggies, which support liver cleansing.

Having meals at consistent times, avoiding late-night eating, and engaging in daily physical activity are essential practices to incorporate. Yoga or brisk walks can specifically help with managing stress and supporting liver health.

It’s always good to consult with your healthcare provider or an Ayurvedic practitioner when adjusting your diet. Each person’s constitution varies, and what works for one person might not be ideal for another. Keeping track of how particular foods make you feel can be useful, and try to introduce changes gradually to observe their impact.
