Namaste, Your symptoms — joint pain with stiffness, swelling, loss of appetite, and color change in palms on cold exposure — indicate Saam Vata condition (ama + vata involvement). The fact that you feel relief with warm water and symptoms worsen in cold clearly supports this. The focus should be on removing ama (toxins), improving digestion, and reducing joint inflammation. Avoid cold food, refrigerated items, curd, heavy, oily, and difficult-to-digest foods. Even if diet is balanced, digestion (agni) needs correction. Prefer warm, light, freshly cooked food. Sip warm water throughout the day. Ayurvedic medicines with dose and timing: Simhanada Guggulu – 1 tablet, twice daily after food Mahayogaraja Guggulu – 1 tablet, twice daily after food Rasnadi Kashayam tablet – 2 tablets, twice daily before food These are traditionally used to reduce ama, relieve joint stiffness, and improve mobility when taken regularly. External care: Apply Dhanwantharam Taila or Mahanarayana Taila on affected joints daily Gentle massage followed by mild heat (hot fomentation) Additional advice: Avoid exposure to cold, especially cold water Gentle joint movement is important, but avoid strain Do not stay completely inactive, as stiffness increases Important note Color change in palms (yellow/blue on cold exposure) suggests circulatory sensitivity, so if it is severe, evaluation may be needed to rule out vascular conditions. With consistent care, stiffness and pain can improve over a few weeks, but full correction of ama takes time. Consultation can help tailor this further to your needs.

Hi! I’m an assistant to the Ask Ayurveda doctors. I’ve carefully reviewed your question.
I will explain your symptoms through the Ayurvedic perspective so you understand what is happening in your body as a whole.
Your symptoms of joint pain, swelling, and color changes in your hands when exposed to cold suggest an imbalance primarily related to Vata dosha, which governs movement and dryness in the body. The stiffness and reduced mobility in the morning align with Vata’s qualities, as does the relief you experience with warmth, which counteracts Vata’s cold nature.
The swelling and color changes in the hands when exposed to cold indicate a possible Kapha involvement, as Kapha is associated with water retention and heaviness. The yellow and blue discoloration might be linked to circulation issues, which can be aggravated by cold, again pointing to a Vata imbalance.
Loss of appetite suggests a disturbance in your digestive fire, or Agni, which can be weakened by an imbalance in any of the doshas but is often associated with Kapha and Vata disturbances.
Ayurveda views these symptoms not as isolated issues but as a systemic imbalance, likely involving Vata and Kapha doshas. This imbalance could be affecting your circulation, digestion, and joint health, leading to the symptoms you are experiencing.
To give doctors a precise and effective treatment plan, your answers to the questions below are essential. Without this information, the recommendations will be more general and less accurate.
Please answer each question as clearly as possible.
