Doctors' responses
••The Golden Rule of Post-Treatment Rest In Ayurveda, the standard rule for post-panchakarma or intensive external therapies (Upakramas) is: •Rest for an equal number of days as the duration of your treatment. ••If you received treatment for 7 days: You need 7 days of strict post-treatment care. ••If you received treatment for 14 days: You need 14 days of post-treatment care. Even if you cannot take total leave from work for that entire duration, the first 3 to 7 days immediately following the last day of therapy are critical for absolute rest. 2. Essential Post-Treatment Care (Parihara Vishaya) ••During the recovery period, your body is transitioning back to its normal state. To prevent the vitiation of Vata dosha and ensure the benefits of the treatment are locked in, you must adhere to the following guidelines: •• Physical Activity ••Avoid heavy exercise: No gym, heavy lifting, running, or strenuous yoga. Stick to gentle walking if necessary. ••Avoid travel: Minimize traveling, especially on two-wheelers or bumpy roads, as the joints and spine are highly vulnerable after Dhara and Kizhi. ••Avoid direct exposure: Stay away from direct sunlight, strong winds, AC drafts, and fans blowing directly on you. •• Diet & Digestion •Eat warm, light food: Your digestive fire (Agni) takes time to return to baseline. Eat freshly cooked, easily digestible meals like Khichdi, Peya (rice gruel), or warm soups. Avoid heavy foods: Strictly avoid fast food, oily or deep-fried items, curd, stale food, and cold beverages. ••Drink warm water: Only consume warm or room-temperature water to support digestion and continuing detoxification. ••Lifestyle & Sleep ••No daytime sleeping: Avoid sleeping during the day (Diva-svapna), as it imbalances Kapha and disrupts digestion. Ensure you get 7–8 hours of sound sleep at night. ••Mental peace: Avoid excessive screen time (phones/laptops), loud music, anger, and stressful arguments. The nervous system is highly receptive and delicate after Dhara.
