During a workout, I heard a noise between my ribs, and since then I’ve been experiencing severe pain in the muscles between the ribs. An X-ray showed that there is no fracture. I have strong pain when stretching and with certain movements. What do you recommend?

While it’s a huge relief the X-ray cleared you of a fracture, rib-related soft tissue injuries are notoriously painful because those muscles move every time you breathe. ​In Ayurveda, this is viewed as a Vata Vyadhi (a disorder caused by aggravated Vata/air element) specifically affecting the Prana Vayu and the local Mamsa (muscle) and Asthi (bone) tissues. ​ ​Avoid heavy lifting or twisting. The “popping” sound often indicates a ligament or muscle fiber tear that needs stillness to knit back together. ​ Apply a warm compress to the area to soothe the Vata. Avoid ice, as it can increase stiffness in this specific context. ​ Favor warm, cooked, and slightly oily foods to pacify Vata. ​ Ayurveda Medicines : ​The following is a standard protocol for musculoskeletal trauma in the Kerala tradition. Please consult an Ayurvedic physician to ensure these are right for your specific constitution. ​1. Internal: Dhanwantharam Pills These are excellent for “Marma” (vital point) injuries and rib pain. ​Dose: Take 1 pill twice daily after food with warm water. ​2. Internal: Karpooradi Thailam (External Application) This oil is specifically used for pain and cramps. It contains camphor, which acts as a natural rubefacient to increase blood flow. ​Dose: Apply gently over the painful area (do not massage vigorously) 2–3 times a day. ​3. Internal: Ksheerabala 101 Capsules This is a fortified version of Ksheerabala oil used for nerve and muscle nourishment. ​Dose: 1 capsule twice daily before food with warm water.
