Hello, This may be involvement of all the three doshas at different levels. I hope you are already on medication. Start sipping boiled hot water throughout the day; keep yourself warm; avoid all deep fried-refrigerated-processed-outside food. Eat at regular intervals; chew your food well so that your acidity and gas remains controlled. Take care, Kind regards.
Hello Parag, I can understand your concern about cold and cough. You have been suffering from cold and cough continuously for about 1 month, and you already feel acidity and gas on a regular basis. Since you also have acidity and gas regularly, there is indeed a possibility of Pitta aggravation along with Kapha imbalance.
✅ Possible Causes & Triggers
Eating oily, fried, spicy or sour food regularly. Excessive intake of tea, coffee, or cold drinks. Eating at irregular times - causing indigestion and acidity. Exposure to dust, cold wind, pollution. Poor sleep habits, stress, and overwork.
✅ AYURVEDIC PLAN OF TREATMENT
1. Sitopaladi Churna with Honey – ½ tsp, twice daily after meals. (Reduces cough, clears phlegm, balances both Kapha & Pitta).
2. Yashtimadhu (Mulethi) Powder – ½ tsp with warm water or honey once daily. (Soothes throat, reduces burning, relieves acidity.)
3. Dashmoolkatutreya ks tab 2-0-2 after food –Anti-inflammatory, strengthens immunity, reduces infection.
✅DIET MODIFICATION
✅ Include
Warm water throughout the day. Moong dal khichdi, light vegetable soups, steamed vegetables. Herbal teas (ginger, Tulsi, fennel). Fruits like apple, pomegranate, pear (avoid banana & guava).
❌ Avoid
Cold water, ice cream, curd, cheese. Spicy, sour, deep-fried foods. Excess coffee/tea, late-night meals.
✅LIFESTYLE GUIDELINES
Take steam inhalation with ajwain seeds or turmeric once/twice daily.
Practice Anulom-Vilom and Bhramari Pranayama for 5–10 mins daily.
Sleep on time, avoid late nights.
Avoid exposure to cold breeze, dust, or sudden temperature changes.
Light evening walk after dinner helps digestion.
Yes, your prolonged cough and cold may be due to Pitta-Kapha imbalance along with weak digestion.
Start with simple remedies like Sitopaladi with honey, Tulsi-ginger decoction, turmeric milk, and maintain a light, warm, easily digestible diet.
With proper lifestyle correction and regular Ayurvedic management, this chronic cough can be relieved and recurrence prevented.
Wishing you a good health😊
Warm Regards Dr Snehal Vidhate

Cold and cough persisting for a month can indeed relate to an imbalance in doshas, which might not always be directly linked to Pitta dosha. Typically, cold and cough are more associated with an imbalance of Kapha dosha. However, if there’s a Pitta imbalance, you might notice symptoms like a sore throat or a burning sensation in the chest.
To address this condition, first, consider dietary adjustments. Include foods that pacify Pitta and Kapha such as cooling, astringent, and bitter flavors. Avoid hot, spicy, oily or fried foods, as these can aggravate Pitta. Opt for foods like boiled vegetables, green leafy vegetables, and grains. For instance, go for barley, rice, or oats as they provide a cooling effect on the body.
Herbal remedies can be beneficial too. Licorice root tea may help soothe the throat and clear the respiratory passages. You can prepare it by boiling a teaspoon of licorice in water and sipping it warm. Additionally, Tulsi (Holy Basil) leaves are effective for cold and cough; make a decoction by boiling them with ginger and drink it twice daily.
Incorporate lifestyle practices like steam inhalation to clear nasal passages. You can add a few drops of eucalyptus oil to hot water for this. Practicing Pranayama, a breathing exercise, every morning can also aid in respiratory health by enhancing lung capacity and reducing congestion.
Regarding routine, ensure you maintain regular sleep patterns, as rest is crucial for the body to heal itself. Try to wind down at least an hour before bedtime to avoid stimulating activities, creating a calm environment for rest.
If the symptoms persist or worsen, it’s essential to seek medical advice to rule out other underlying conditions. Balancing doshas may take time and often requires consistent effort to achieve long-term relief.
Cold and cough persisting for a longer period like one month typically suggests an imbalance that could be vata or kapha related, although pitta imbalance can sometimes, in its unique way, impact respiratory health too. In Siddha-Ayurvedic terms, prolonged cold and cough often relate to aggravated kapha dosha, which can cause mucus buildup and respiratory issues. However, if there’s a burning sensation in the throat or fever, pitta could be involved too. To address this, we need to target the root cause of these symptoms and stabilize your doshic balance.
Start by focusing on diet—steer clear of cold, heavy, and oily foods that increase kapha. Opt for warm, freshly cooked meals that are light and easy to digest. Incorporate spices like ginger, black pepper, and turmeric into your food, as these help improve digestion and clear mucus. Tulsi tea (Holy Basil) can be highly beneficial for its kapha-pacifying properties; sip regularly through the day.
Incorporate breathing exercises such as pranayama, particularly anulom vilom, to benefit the respiratory system and boost lung capacity.
For direct treatment, consider a steam inhalation with a few drops of eucalyptus oil to relieve nasal congestion. Adding a kapha-balancing herbal formulation like Sitopaladi churna in warm water twice daily might also be effective.
Avoid exposure to cold weather, and try rubbing warming oils like sesame on the chest before bedtime to relieve congestion. Stay consistent with these approaches for at least a week to observe any changes.
However, given the duration of your symptoms, it’s important to consult a healthcare professional to rule out any underlaying conditions, especially if the cold and cough doesn’t improve soon.
