Nitesh’s prolonged back pain is indeed concerning, particularly if he’s been experiencing this for over 3 years without substantial relief. It’s essential to consider an approach that addresses his condition holistically, aiming to understand the root cause, which might relate to either musculoskeletal issues, lifestyle factors, or even stress.

From an Ayurvedic perspective, back pain often correlates with an imbalance of Vata dosha, since Vata governs movement and the nervous system. When Vata gets imbalanced, it can lead to dryness and weakness in the tissues (dhatus), potentially causing pain.

Firstly, I would recommend focusing on diet and lifestyle modifications to pacify Vata. The incorporation of warm, nourishing, and slightly oily foods can be beneficial. Encourage Nitesh to include foods like cooked grains (rice, quinoa), dairy, nuts, and plenty of warm soups and stews. Hing (asafetida), ginger and garlic can help with digestion and possess anti-inflammatory properties that may also aid.

In terms of lifestyle, establishing a regular routine including sufficient rest and sleep is crucial. Gentle exercise, such as yoga or tai chi, can promote flexibility and strengthen the back muscles without straining them. Avoid sudden movements or lifting heavy objects, which might exacerbate the condition.

An effective practice is daily abhyanga (self-massage) with warm sesame oil, focusing on the back and joints. Doing this for about 15-20 minutes before a warm bath or shower can help nourish the tissues and balance Vata.

If the pain becomes unbearable, it’s critical to seek immediate medical attention. Ayurveda should complement, rather than replace, conventional treatments. Certain Ayurvedic treatments like panchakarma might also be beneficial, but only under the guidance of a qualified practitioner.

A consistent practice of meditation and pranayama (breathing exercises) may also alleviate stress, which is often interlinked with chronic pain. Encourage Nitesh to maintain regular follow-ups with healthcare professionals to monitor his condition closely.

These steps, tailored to Nitesh’s unique situation, should be practical to implement and may bring relief if followed diligently.
