how to make amla juice - #23204

Christian

I am really curious about how to make amla juice because I’ve been hearing so much about its health benefits! So, last week, I decided to buy fresh amla from this local market, but I wasn't sure what to do next. I tried blending it with some water but didn’t get that smooth texture I was hoping for. Like, do I need to strain it? Also, I've read about adding ginger or honey, but I'm not quite sure of the ratios. How to make amla juice that actually tastes good? Any tips or recipes would be super appreciated! Oh, and is it true it helps with digestion? Thx!

Absolutely, making amla juice can be a rewarding process, and yes, it’s true that amla can be beneficial for digestion! Now, let me guide you step-by-step so you’ll have a smoother experience next time around.

Start with washing your fresh amla fruit thoroughly to remove any dirt or residues. You’ll want to remove the seed by slicing the amla into small pieces. You mentioned blending it with water which is correct, but the key to a smoother texture is blending it in small batches. Take about 5-6 medium-sized amlas and blend them with half a cup of water to start with.

Once you’ve blended it, straining is indeed a good idea if you’re aiming for a smooth consistency. You can use a fine strainer or a muslin cloth. Simply pour the blended mixture through your chosen strainer and press it down with a spoon to extract all the juice.

Now, about adding ginger or honey - these can indeed enhance both the flavor and health benefits. A small piece of ginger (like about half an inch for your batch) can be added to the blender for that kick without overpowering the amla. As for honey, start with a teaspoon - it’s always easy to add more if needed, rather than starting with too much.

For taste and as a way to balance the sourness, you might also want to add a pinch of black salt, which is known in Ayurveda to help with digestion itself. Enjoy your freshly prepared amla juice on an empty stomach in the morning for the best digestive benefits. Remember, amla being rich in vitamin C and antioxidants supports the digestive fire, which is called ‘agni’ in Ayurveda, promoting metabolic processes.

If the juice is too strong or tart for your liking, feel free to dilute it with more water. And a quick reminder - moderation is key; enjoying amla juice a few times a week can be beneficial without overwhelming your system.

I hope this helps make your next amla juice experience a successful one!

Thanks so much for clarifying this! I had no idea mixing meds could be risky. I'll stick to my doctor's meds and look into Ayurveda separately.
