how to consume honey - #24384

Leo

I am feeling kinda lost about how to consume honey these days. Last week, I started incorporating honey into my morning routine, thinking it was a good idea for my energy levels. But not sure if I'm doing it right. I’ve been taking it raw, but I’ve read some stuff about mixing it with warm water or even lemon too. Like, what’s the best way to consume honey? I tried adding it to my tea as well, but I think the temperature might be messing with the benefits. I woke up feeling sluggish and thought maybe I’m consuming it too late? 🤔 I even saw a post about how to consume honey for skincare but got worried that my skin won’t like it if I eat too much, you know? Just wondering if you guys have tips or suggestions on how to consume honey without overdoing it. Is there a right time or way? Ugh, I just wanna feel good again! Any advice would be super helpful – thanks!

Honey is indeed a wonderful gift from nature and a staple in Ayurveda, offering various health benefits if consumed correctly. You’re on the right track by incorporating honey, and I can provide some tips that might help align its usage with your routine. In Ayurveda, honey is considered to have a heating energy effect, balancing Vata and Kapha doshas while possibly increasing Pitta if consumed excessively or incorrectly.

Try having honey first thing in the morning on an empty stomach with warm—not hot—water to help kickstart your digestive fire (Agni). You can add a squeeze of fresh lemon, too; it not only complements honey’s natural properties but also can cleanse your system. Remember, the water should not be too hot, as high temperatures can destroy honey’s beneficial enzymes and turn it harmful.

Raw consumption is alright, but moderation is key. Stick to about 1-2 teaspoons daily. For tea, allow your brew to cool a little before adding honey—again, to preserve its natural properties. If you’re feeling sluggish, it might be the body adjusting, or even unrelated—consider making sure your overall diet and sleep are consistent first.

If you’re aiming for skin benefits, consumption alone isn’t the only way. Honey can also be applied topically due to its anti-microbial and soothing properties. Mixing it with turmeric or applying directly might be beneficial, but always patch-test a small area to check sensitivity.

Lastly, timing plays a bit of a role: Morning is ideal, providing a steady energy flow. Avoid taking it late or in large quantities at night as it could disrupt sleep due to its natural sugar content.

If skin reactions or digestive issues persist, pause and consult a healthcare provider. Striking a balance is vital — avoid overeating, stay hydrated, and always listen to your body’s signals. Hopefully, with these tweaks, you’ll start feeling more energized and aligned with nature’s pace.

Thanks so much for clarifying this! I had no idea mixing meds could be risky. I'll stick to my doctor's meds and look into Ayurveda separately.
