Beene Miyoba

How can I restore my periods. I stopped at the age of 23 and now I am 47. After delivery at 23 I had pph, Then I used 3 doses of depo provera. I gained weight. Tried to restore with help of hormones but no luck. I would have periods sometimes once a year or in six months. Six years later I had my second child despite being told that I would never have another child. Hoping for a restoration but to avail.

Ah, it sounds like you've been through quite a journey with this. Navigating amenorrhea for such a long time is definitely challenging. From an ayurvedic perspective, we look at the body holistically, and with your history, there’s probably a bit of Vata dosha aggravation combined with Kapha imbalance because of weight gain after Depo Provera injections and the stress your body’s been under since PPH. So first things first, it's important to focus on balancing those doshas. Begin with your diet. Warm, nourishing foods can help balance Vata, while also being mindful not to exacerbate Kapha. Think of dishes like warm soups, stews, and embracing spices like ginger, turmeric and cumin—they can support agni (your digestive fire). Exercise is another pillar here. Regular movement like daily brisk walking or gentle yoga not just helps with weight but encourages healthy blood circulation and tones the reproductive organs. But don’t go too intense—Vata-pacifying is the goal! Additionally, Ashwagandha and Shatavari are renowned in Ayurveda for supporting female reproductive health. They can be taken in powdered form with milk, before bed, but please do consult a practitioner before starting any herbs. Restoring balance isn’t just about physical actions, but emotional health too. Engage in stress-relieving practices like meditation or pranayama (controlled breathing), they can indeed do wonders in stabilizing Vata. Still, given your medical history, it’s essential to maintain contact with a healthcare professional. It's helpful to integrate Ayurvedic practices with their advice, ensuring the best holistic outcome without overriding necessary medical interventions. Remember, this kind of wellness journey takes patience and consistency. It’s completely okay if changes occur gradually and listening to your body is key. Keep faith on the path!
