Doctors' responses

Persistent hip pain even despite conventional treatments can be challenging. In Ayurveda, hip pain with inflammation may be understood as a Vata and Pitta imbalance. It’s important to address both the underlying doshic imbalance and her overall lifestyle.

First, ensure she follows a Vata-Pitta pacifying diet. Focus on warm, cooked meals and avoid raw or cold food. Favor foods that are sweet, sour, and salty, such as whole grains, root vegetables like sweet potatoes, and fruits like bananas and dates. Introduce more ghee and healthy oils to her diet, whch are soothing to Vata and Pitta. Minimize spicy, sour, overly pungent, or fried foods which can aggravate Pitta, a hot quality linked to inflammation.

For direct relief, consider topical applications of Ayurvedic oils. Mahanarayan oil is known for its pain-relieving and anti-inflammatory properties. Warm the oil slightly and gently massage it into the hip area once or twice daily. Hot fomentation (heat application) on the area can also provide comfort and help with pain relief.

Encourage her to maintain a regular, but moderated exercise routine. Gentle yoga and continued Qigong are beneficial, yet she should avoid any movements that aggravate the pain until improvement is noticed. Restoration and relaxation are key.

Consider Ayurvedic herbal supplements like Shallaki (Boswellia), which is traditionally used to support joint health and reduce inflammation. However, it’s crucial to consult with a qualified Ayurvedic practitioner to ensure harmony with her constitution and current treatments.

Make sure her hydration is sufficient, leaning towards herbal teas like ginger or chamomile, which soothe Vata and Pitta as well. Finally, encourage regular sleep patterns; sleep deficiency can exacerbate Vata disorders and hinder healing.

If the pain persists or worsens, continue to seek medical advice. Sometimes a multi-disciplinary approach, involving both modern and traditional practices, provides the best results.
