How to treat burning sensation and crooked toes in a 69-year-old with anxiety and low energy? - #54516
Hello & Greetings to All ! I'm Lily, aged 69 years & my weight is 82 kgs. Since 10 years I have been facing this : The consecutive 2 toes, next to the big toe, of both the feet - get bent /crooked & last 3 toes (starting from the little toe) of my right feet get stiff and feel pulled - like pulled with a rubber band backwards and the pain stretching till ankle ! I also have burning sensation & pain in the soles of my feet but not in the heels but at the base of the toes and the area below toes. This is aggravated after standing / walking and it subsides after stopping the activity or lying down. I also visit senior care center wherein we do some mild stretching and exercises. Burning sensation issue since 1 & 1/2 years. I have habit of wearing socks - Could this issue of burning sensation be because of wearing socks - cloth creating friction with skin ? Could the bending of toes issue be because of ill - fitting footwear ? Muscle pressure imbalance issue in the feet ? or Nerve compression ? Is this some kind of Arthritis, blood circulation issue, digestion issue, related to Vaat dosha ? I also feel anxious some times - especially task-related and situational anxiety, feel hazy / confused sometimes, feel slowed down - feel low energy sometimes ! Kindly guide and suggest the treatment / medication - internal (medication, food changes, breathing exercise, nutraceutical food supplements etc if any) & external (massage, physiotherapy, yoga, water soaks etc if any) - major / minor life style changes, if any, needed and some more measures to be taken in order to solve the issue completely and seek relief. Many Thanks !
Doctors' responses
Your presentation is not a single isolated issue. It is a combination of structural foot changes plus nerve and metabolic involvement. From your description Bent or crooked toes suggest hammertoe or claw toe type deformity with muscle imbalance Tight pulling sensation up to ankle indicates tendon and neuromuscular involvement Burning in soles points toward peripheral neuropathy or Pitta aggravated Vata Worse on walking and better on rest indicates mechanical plus Vata aggravation Age and long duration indicate chronic Vata disorder with dhatu kshaya Socks alone are not the cause. Ill fitting footwear, long term pressure, nerve irritation, and degeneration are more relevant. This condition in Ayurveda can be understood as Vata vriddhi with Pitta association affecting pada pradesha, snayu and sira. Management requires combined internal and external approach. Internal Ayurvedic treatment and dose Yogaraja Guggulu Dose: 2 tablets twice daily after food with warm water Action: Vata balancing, joint and nerve support Ashwagandha Churna Dose: 5 grams at night with warm milk Action: nerve nourishment, strength, reduces fatigue and anxiety Dashmoolarishta Dose: 15 ml with equal water twice daily after food Action: reduces Vata, inflammation and stiffness Ksheerabala 101 Capsules or oil internally Dose: 1 capsule twice daily with milk Action: excellent for neuropathy, burning and weakness Praval Pishti Dose: 125 mg twice daily with ghee or honey Action: reduces burning sensation (Pitta shamak) External treatment Daily foot Abhyanga Use Ksheerabala Taila or Mahanarayana Taila Method: warm oil massage for 10 to 15 minutes, especially toes and sole After massage Mild fomentation with warm water towel or dip feet in warm water for 5 to 10 minutes At night Apply a small amount of ghee to soles if burning is high Gentle toe mobilization exercises daily Do not overstretch, only mild range movements
