how to increase progesterone ayurveda - #43065

Aubrey

I am really struggling with some hormonal issues lately. Over the past few months, I’ve been dealing with really irregular periods and a ton of mood swings which is just driving me crazy! I finally went for some tests and found out that my progesterone levels are way lower than they should be. I read a bit about how to increase progesterone ayurveda naturally, but it’s kinda confusing. A friend mentioned some herbs and lifestyle changes but I’m honestly not sure where to start. I’ve tried stress-reducing techniques like meditation (and boy is it hard for me) but nothing seems to be helping much. I wonder if there are specific ayurvedic remedies or foods I should focus on? Also, would it make sense to incorporate something like Ashwagandha or Shatavari into my routine? I’ve read they can help, but do you guys think they really work for increasing progesterone? I’m just worried that if I don’t do something soon, I’ll end up feeling worse. Any advice on how to increase progesterone ayurveda-style would be super appreciated!

Low progesterone can indeed disrupt your hormonal balance, leading to symptoms like irregular periods and mood swings, as you’ve mentioned. In Ayurveda, hormonal imbalances are often viewed through the lens of dosha imbalance, particularly involving Vata and Pitta doshas. To address this, integrating certain herbs, dietary adjustments, and lifestyle practices can be beneficial.

First, incorporating Shatavari is a wise choice. Known as a rejuvenating tonic for the female reproductive system, Shatavari can help balance hormones. You can take it in powdered form, about 1/2 teaspoon mixed with a glass of warm milk or water, once or twice daily, preferably in the evening. Be consistent with this for a few weeks to observe changes. Ashwagandha is another adaptogenic herb that supports hormone regulation by reducing stress, which can otherwise exacerbate hormonal issues. A similar dosage to Shatavari is recommended.

Additionally, prioritize foods that are nourishing and grounding to pacify Vata. Opt for warm, cooked meals that include whole grains like oats and brown rice, and don’t shy away from healthy fats such as ghee and sesame oil. These foods can support your body’s natural hormone production.

Yoga and Pranayama (breathing exercises) are essential parts of an Ayurvedic routine for hormonal balance. Regular practice can help manage stress and promote stability, supporting the body’s hormonal systems. Aim for a daily 20-30 minutes session with focus on calming asanas such as Child’s Pose, and deep breathing exercises.

Avoid stimulants like caffeine and refined sugars as these can lead to further hormonal imbalances. Instead, drink herbal teas such as ginger, or chamomile, which soothe the nervous system.

Finally, ensure you are getting sufficient sleep, as restorative sleep can greatly impact hormonal health. Establish a regular sleep routine by going to bed at the same time each night.

If symptoms persist, it may be necessary to consult with a physician who can guide you further and tailor recommendations according to your unique constitution and needs. The holistic approach of Ayurveda is about balance, and patience and consistency are key to seeing improvement.
