What is causing my recurrent lower back pain and swelling at age 50? - #52797
Manjula, age 50. I have recurrent episodes of lower back pain for about 1 month at a time. The pain starts in the lower spine and radiates to both legs, more on the right side, reaching up to the foot. These episodes come and go — after some time it improves, then comes back again. During severe pain episodes, I sometimes get mild fever. I have also noticed visible veins in my thighs and calves. Recently, I feel my heartbeat increases even with little walking. My face and body appears swollen or inflamed at times. I have gained weight (around 75–78 kg, height 156 cm) despite controlling diet. I also get itching sensation through body hair, especially when symptoms are active.”
