In Ayurveda, hyperthyroidism and its effect on the eyes, known as thyroid eye disease (TED), are typically related to an imbalance in the Pitta and Vata doshas, which affect both the thyroid and the tissues around the eyes. While complete reversal of the eye changes might not always be possible, Ayurvedic treatments can help manage the symptoms and support healing. Herbs like Ashwagandha, Guggulu, and Triphala can help balance thyroid function and reduce inflammation. Cooling treatments, such as applying cucumber or rose water to the eyes, may soothe irritation. A diet that supports thyroid health, along with managing stress through yoga and pranayama, can further assist in stabilizing the condition. A personalized Ayurvedic approach focusing on your unique constitution would be beneficial for better management and improvement.

Hyperthyroidism can cause a condition called Graves’ ophthalmopathy, where the eyes tend to bulge out, kind of unsettling I know... and addressing this can take some time. In Ayurveda, the focus would be more on balancing the Pitta dosha, it’s heating in nature and often linked with thyroid issues. Here’s what might help: First, have a chat with your doctor, right now, seriously, to make sure your eyes are well-protected. But from an ayurvedic perspective, you could work on cooling the system and managing that excess heat. Simple things like applying a gentle Ayurvedic eye wash, using Triphala-infused water, perhaps once daily, might soothe the eyes. Just get the Triphala powder, soak it overnight, strain it, then use that to wash the eyes, real careful though. Diet plays a big role too. Avoid super spicy or sour foods, since they can aggravate Pitta. Consider including more cooling foods like cucumber, coconut, and barley. If you can, squeeze a bit of aloe vera juice regularly – it works wonders to pacify Pitta, like a bit of a natural air conditioner for your insides. Try to practice yoga or any eye exercises, if your doc gives a thumbs up, which can increase circulation around the eye area. You might try rolling your eyes and even just focusing on a near then distant object. And hey, sleep – it's hugely essential – aim for that solid shut-eye. Natural remedies can take time, a lot of it’s about consistency in Ayurveda. But remember, this kind of support for your body might help in balance while still keeping in touch with your healthcare provider. Don't aim for it overnight, it’s little steps. Keep me in the loop, would love to hear if anything brings you relief.
