What the remedy for Osteoarthritis and Avascular Necrosis on both hips? This condition started with pains on both thighs and was just recently diagnosed of it. Have seen a doctor here who has said hip replacement on both sides is the only remedy. Is there any other remedy?

For addressing Osteoarthritis and Avascular Necrosis of the hips, an Ayurvedic approach would focus on alleviating symptoms, enhancing mobility, and supporting the health of joint tissues. While severe cases often require surgical intervention, there are ways to manage discomfort and potentially slow progression through traditional remedies and lifestyle adjustments. From an Ayurvedic perspective, this condition might involve an imbalance in Vata and could relate to weak dhatus or tissues. Specific strategies can be adopted: 1. **Dietary Considerations:** Incorporate warming and nourishing foods that pacify Vata. Include ghee, warm soups, and stews. Avoid cold, dry, and raw foods. Turmeric, with its anti-inflammatory properties, can be added as it's known to support joint health. 2. **Herbal Supplements:** Consider taking Ashwagandha and Shallaki (Boswellia) which might help in reducing inflammation and support bone health. However, it's imperative to consult with a local Ayurvedic practitioner before starting any herbs to tailor it to your unique constitution and ensure it doesn't interfere with current medications. 3. **Therapeutic Measures:** Panchakarma, the cleansing process, can be considered although it is important to do under the supervision of a qualified practitioner. Abhyanga (oil massage) with warmed Mahanarayan oil on the hips may aid in balancing Vata and provide relief. 4. **Gentle Movement:** Focus on exercises that don't strain the hips, such as gentle stretching and swimming. Yoga, specifically asanas that promote joint flexibility, can be beneficial. 5. **Lifestyle Adjustments:** Prioritize getting regular, restful sleep, as fatigue can exacerbate Vata imbalances. Keep stress levels in check through meditation or Tai Chi. It's essential to note that while these measures can be helpful, they are complementary. Given the severity of Avascular Necrosis, where the bone tissue is dying, surgical intervention like hip replacement can sometimes be necessary to restore function. Always keep in close touch with your healthcare providers to ensure any alternative therapies do not conflict with medical treatments.
