I am really confused about how many amla eat per day. I've been reading up on the benefits of amla lately because my digestion has been super off, and I heard it's good for that and also for my skin, which could use some help too. Anyway, my grandma swears by it and says I should eat it daily, but she didn't say how much. Last week, I tried to eat like three of them in one go, thinking that was good, but then I felt this weird tangy taste for hours, and honestly, I wasn't feeling great afterward. I'm worried if I ate too much or not enough. Like, what if I'm missing out because I'm not eating enough, or could I be overdoing it with how many amla eat per day? I also saw somewhere that people mix it with honey or put it in smoothies, which sounds tasty, but is that still effective? Also, are there any side effects if I eat too many amla in a short time? I feel like there's so much info out there, but I just want to know a simple answer. Any advice on the right amount to incorporate into my daily diet would be awesome.

This amount helps provide the benefits without overwhelming your taste buds or digestive system.

Eating three at once might have been a bit much, especially given its strong, tangy taste. For those not accustomed to amla’s intense flavor, it can take some time to adjust, hence producing the weird sensation you felt. So, start with one fruit a day and observe how your body responds. If it feels right, gradually increase to two if needed. Always consider your unique body constitution (prakriti) and current imbalances (vikruti) when adjusting your intake.

Regarding consumption, there are indeed various methods, such as amla murabba (preserved in sugar) or amla powder mixed with water, both of which could be easier to consume if the raw taste is too intense. Mixing amla with honey is a popular way to counteract its acidity while still retaining its benefits, plus it’s quite palatable!

As to any possible side effects, if overconsumed, amla might lead to an agitated digestive system, increasing acidity especially if consumed on empty stomach. It could also contribute to mild diarrhea or stomach upset. Everyone’s digestion (agni) is different, so moderation is key.

For incorporating amla into your diet effectively, try adding a teaspoon of its powder to your breakfast smoothie or yogurt, it maintains its efficacy even when mixed with other ingredients. Alongside, other simple preparations like amla juice, taken in moderation, can be equally beneficial.
