is sweet curd good for weight loss - #40511
I am really confused about something that’s been on my mind. Last week, I went to this Ayurvedic retreat, trying to find more natural ways to feel better and maybe lose some weight. The nutritionist there said that sweet curd could be beneficial for weight loss. But, honestly, I’ve heard mixed things about it! Like, is sweet curd good for weight loss or not? I love curd, especially when it’s sweetened with honey or fruits, but I don’t wanna sabotage my progress. I started exercising and really watching what I’m eating, but then I keep getting tempted by all these delicious things like sweet curd! I had it for breakfast a couple of days ago, and it just felt soo creamy and nice. Still, I've been reading online, and different opinions make it super hard to figure out what’s true. Would it help me or actually add to my weight instead? Or is sweet curd good for weight loss as an occasional treat if I eat in moderation? I’d really appreciate any insights or personal experiences you all can share! It’s just hard to sift through the info out there sometimes... Thanks!

Sweet curd indeed can be a double-edged sword when it comes to weight loss. In Ayurveda, curd (or yogurt) is generally considered a wholesome food due to its probiotic richness, supporting good digestion and therefore healthy weight management. However, like all foods, it’s essential to consider how it is consumed. Sweet curd, particularly when sweetened with sugar, can lead to added caloric intake, which may not support weight loss efforts.
If your prakriti (body constitution) is primarily Kapha, curd in any form may not be the best choice. Kapha individuals are advised to consume foods that are dry in nature, as curd, especially sweetened, tends towards heaviness and potential imbalance. On the other hand, if your predominant dosha is Vata or Pitta, a small amount of curd once in a while, especially when combined with honey or fruits (which are lighter and may balance the heaviness of curd), could be reasonable.
The key lies in moderation and timing. According to Ayurvedic texts, curd should be consumed during the daytime, preferably before noon, because at night it can aggravate Kapha and lead to congestion or even weight gain due to decreased digestive fire (agni). Also, sweet curd should be produced using natural sweeteners like honey or fruits rather than refined sugar, which is harder to metabolize and might counteract your weight goals.
As you are already exercising and watching your diet, incorporating sweet curd as an occasional treat could be acceptable, provided it fits into your overall caloric and nutritional balance. Try having a small serving after an intensive workout to replenish your energy reserves while controlling portions. Pay attention to how your body responds; it’s always insightful to evaluate whether it makes you feel sluggish or energized afterwards. Listening to your body’s signals often guides better than any preconceived notion.
Remember, consistency is vital in weight loss journeys. Sweet curd isn’t inherently bad, but like many indulgences, knowing when and how much to consume can greatly influence your progress. Align it with an active lifestyle and mindful eating habits, and it can be part of your diverse diet without derailing your efforts.
