I am really confused about this whole thing with curd. Lately, I started eating curd daily because I've heard it’s good for digestion and all that. But my mom says too much of it can cause phlegm and stuff like that, which worries me 'cause I don't want to end up feeling sick! My aunt's been dealing with some digestive issues, and she’s been trying to add curd daily in her diet too. Last week, I noticed some bloating after having a bowl of it, but I thought maybe it was just something I ate. But then again, I've read online that curd can be super beneficial. But, like, can we eat curd daily? I mean, what’s the right amount? Should it be with meals or can I just snack on it anytime? Also, my friend told me that if I mix it with honey, it enhances benefits, but what do you guys think about that? Is it safe or could that mess things up? I feel like I’m stuck in the middle of a curd debate without the right info. Anyone have thoughts or experiences on this? Are there any side effects I should be mindful of if I keep consuming curd daily?

Yes, curd can be eaten daily, but with a mindful approach. Curd is indeed beneficial for digestion, as it contains probiotics supporting the gut flora. However, Ayurveda suggests that curd should be consumed carefully according to one’s dosha and current health conditions.

For individuals with more Kapha prakriti, like those experiencing excess mucus or phlegm, curd can indeed exacerbate these conditions if eaten in large quantities or at the wrong time. To balance this, consider consuming curd during midday, when digestive fire — Agni — is typically stronger, enhancing your ability to digest it properly. Try to avoid it at night, as it may increase Kapha-related symptoms like congestion.

Regarding the quantity, a moderate serving — about a small bowl (roughly 100-150 grams) — should suffice for most people, unless specific conditions or symptoms suggested otherwise. Pairing curd with other foods can also influence its effects. Serving it alongside spicy or cooked foods can balance potential mucus formation. If bloating arises, it might mean that your Agni is not digesting it well, requiring evaluation by an consultant if persists.

Mixing curd with honey is not advisable in Ayurveda. This combination is considered to create ‘ama’ or toxins in the digestive system due to its opposing energetics. However, you can safely mix curd with items like a pinch of rock salt, some ginger, or even a little sugar, depending on user’s Prakriti.

Additionally, for people experiencing digestive issues, ensure curd is fresh and not sour, as overly sour curd can aggravate Pitta elements, leading to acidity or other digestive concerns. And remember, consuming curd when feeling sluggish or lethargic may increase Kapha dosha dominance.
