do curd help in weight loss - #41974

Lucy

I am feeling a bit confused about this whole weight loss journey. Been trying all sorts of diets, but nothing's working like I hoped! Recently, I've heard mixed things about curd. Some friends swear by it, saying "do curd help in weight loss", especially for snack time or breakfast. Other folks think it might not be all that great??? A few months ago, I started doing yoga and trying to eat healthier. But some days, I feel like I'm starving and then end up binging. I'm a bit lactose intolerant, but I can handle curd most of the time, atleast I thought. I tried having curd with fruits and nuts but then I read somewhere that high calories can also offset its benefits, which makes me wonder, do curd help in weight loss or is that just a myth my friends are believing??? Like, if I eat it at night, is it gonna mess with my weight loss plans? Did any of you notice a difference from eating curd regularly? Like, I’m starting to think maybe I should add it in instead of that late-night snack err something, but idk. I really wanna make my diet work for me without feeling deprived! What do you think?

Curd, or dahi as it’s called in many parts of India, can play a role in weight loss, but it’s important to understand how and when to use it effectively. In Ayurveda, curd provides a rich source of probiotics, essential for maintaining a healthy gut flora, which is crucial for digestion and metabolism. When digestion is in balance, it supports proper absorption and elimination, aiding in weight management.

However, it’s very crucial to consider portions and the context in which you’re consuming curd. For someone who’s slightly lactose intolerant, small amounts might be manageable, but it can still vary from person to person. Listen to your body–if curd makes you feel uncomfortable, it might not be the right choice for you.

Including fruits and nuts with curd can indeed increase its calorie content, but it’s the quality of calories that’s important. Nuts and whole fruits offer nutritional value and can improve satiety. When having curd as a snack or meal, a small bowl in the morning or afternoon can be beneficial. Eating curd at night might not be ideal since Ayurveda suggests avoiding heavy foods in the evening which may be harder too digest.

For weight loss, incorporate curd in a balanced meal with other components that coexist well, like whole grains or lightly cooked vegetables. Be mindful of how it affects your digestive system and overall energy levels. Moderate consumption, paired with regular physical activity like yoga, can contribute positively to your weight loss journey.

Remember, everyone’s body is unique. What works for one may not be suitable for another. Experiment within safe boundaries, and observe how your body reacts. If curd fits comfortably into your diet and supports your wellness goals without causing discomfort, it could be a valuable inclusion.

Curd can indeed be a useful addition to your weight loss journey, provided it aligns with your digestive health and doshic balance. In the Siddha-Ayurvedic perspective, curd is considered both nourishing and beneficial for the gut, which is essential for maintaining a strong agni, or digestive fire. Its probiotic properties may help improve digestion and assist in the proper assimilation of nutrients.

However, there are some caveats to consider. If you are vata-dominant, curd’s cooling properties can potentially pacify vata imbalances, but it’s best consumed in moderation. For pitta-dominant individuals, fresh curd might be warming and thus should be balanced with cooling spices like coriander or mint. Kapha-types would benefit from eating curd during midday, as digestive power (agni) is generally stronger.

Considering your mild lactose intolerance, you’re fortunate that curd is often better tolerated due to its fermentation, which can reduce lactose content. Make sure the curd is not too sour, as this can interfere with digestion and possibly trigger overeating due to increased appetite. Ideally, enjoy curd during lunch rather than at night since consuming it late can increase kapha dosha, potentially leading to weight gain.

If you decide to have curd with fruits and nuts, do so without other high-calorie or sugary add-ons. Fresh, seasonal fruits in moderation are preferable. Notice how your body reacts and adjust accordingly to ensure comfort.

Incorporating curd as part of a balanced meal plan, while continuing with yoga and mindful eating, can make your weight loss journey more fulfilling without unnecessary restrictions.
