is dahi good for weight loss - #42983

Nora

I am struggling with my weight, and I need some advice. I've recently started incorporating healthier foods into my diet, and I keep hearing about how dahi might be helpful. Like, I've had a few friends say that is dahi good for weight loss, but I’m just not too sure. Just last week, I tried a smoothie with dahi in it, and it was really tasty!!! But I don't wanna rely on it if it doesn't actually help. I did some online reading and saw mixed things. Some sources rave about probiotics and how dahi can aid digestion, which seems interesting, but I also found articles claiming it's high in calories and might not be the best for losing weight. Honestly, I'm confused! I’m trying to shed about 10 pounds — I work out sometimes, but then I also have days where I just snack way too much, especially at night. My meals can be hit-or-miss. Sometimes I add fruit to my dahi, and other times I just go for it plain, but I'm worried I might be sabotaging my efforts. Can anyone share their experiences?? Is dahi good for weight loss or should I be looking for other options? Any tips on how to use it effectively would really help! Thanks, y’all!

Dahi, or yogurt, can definitely be a useful aid in weight loss, but like all foods, it depends on how you integrate it into your overall diet and lifestyle. In Ayurveda, dahi is known for its beneficial properties, including its support for digestion and metabolism. Rich in probiotics, dahi can aid in maintaining a healthy gut flora, which is crucial for efficient digestion and nutrient absorption. However, it tends to increase kapha dosha, which can lead to weight gain if consumed in excess or in the wrong manner.

For starters, consider the type of dahi you are consuming. Opt for homemade or unsweetened varieties to avoid added sugars and preservatives that are common in store-bought options. This ensures that you are getting the full probiotic benefits without the extra calories or unwanted additives.

Timing and pairing are also key. Dahi is best consumed during the day, ideally before sunset, as part of your lunch or in the early afternoon. Consuming dahi in the evening or night can imbalance kapha and pitta doshas, making it harder for your body to digest and potentially hampering your weight loss goals.

Pair your dahi with warming or light foods. For example, a few spices like a pinch of cumin or black pepper, or a bit of honey can enhance its digestive benefits. Adding fruits like berries, which are less sweet, can be a great way to lighten up the dish, or use it in a savory form with cucumbers and carrots as a raita.

Incorporating dahi into your diet alongside other healthy habits will yield the best results. Regular exercise, consistent meal timing, and mindful snacking choices are equally important. Try to have meals that satiate your hunger and discourage snacking by including fibrous vegetables and whole grains, and drink plenty of water throughout the day.

If nighttime snacking is a problem, aim to replace less healthy choices with herbal teas or a small serving of nuts. Always listen to your body, and adjust as necessary. What works well for one person may not work as well for another, but dahi, utilized properly, can definitely play a supportive role in your weight loss journey.
