It sounds like your wife is experiencing a Vata imbalance, which often manifests as dryness, itching, and sensitivity, especially if it arises post-pregnancy due to the changes in her body. In Ayurveda, postnatal care is crucial and often involves calming Vata through diet, lifestyle, and external applications.

Firstly, consider her diet. Ensure it is rich in good fats such as ghee and olive oil, which can nourish and lubricate the body’s tissues. Warm, cooked meals like soups, stews, and porridges are easier to digest and more balancing for Vata than raw or cold foods. Drinking warm water with a slice of ginger can aid digestion and improve nutrient absorption, easing dryness from the inside out.

Externally, try using sesame oil or almond oil, gently massaged into the facial skin. These oils are grounding and hydrating, ideal for Vata conditions. Leave the oil on the skin for 15-20 minutes before washing off lightly with a gentle cleanser. This might be more beneficial than conventional moisturizers, which can sometimes maintain surface-level moisture without addressing deeper skin layers.

In addition to these suggestions, pay attention to her daily routine. Encourage regular sleep patterns, warm baths, and relaxation practices like yoga or meditation. Stress has a way of amplifying Vata symptoms, so minimizing it is key. Ensure she’s getting enough quality sleep — about 7 to 9 hours is ideal.

While these techniques can assist in rebalancing the body, be open to modifying them based on how she feels. If improvement is inconsistent or symptoms worsen, it might be necessary to review her condition with a healthcare practitioner familiar with both Ayurveda and conventional medicine. Always keep safety as a priority, and avoid delaying necessary medical interventions.
