Anxiety and sleeplessness often, tie back to imbalances in Pitta dosha, particularly if you notice regular patterns possibly linked to hormonal fluctuations. Ayurveda’s holistic approach can help in re-balancing these elements. One simple yet effective way to calm an overactive Pitta is through a combo of lifestyle and dietary changes along with recommended yoga practices.

First things first, dietary adjustment can be key. Avoid hot, spicy, and oily foods as these can aggravate Pitta. Favor cooling, light, and hydrating foods like cucumbers, sweet fruits (like dates and figs), and coconut water. Including ghee, and dairy, if you’re okay with lactose, can be beneficial too. Try to have your meals at consistent times, particularly dinner no later than 7 p.m. to align with your circadian rhythms.

Yoga and Pranayama can be your allies as well. Practicing poses such as Shavasana (Corpse pose) and Yoga Nidra can encourage deep relaxation. Bhramari Pranayama (Bee Breathing) has soothing effects on the nervous system, which may help alleviate anxiety and improve sleep. Consistency here, as always in Ayurveda, plays a vital role.

Don’t underestimate the power of daily self-care routines too. Abhyanga, or self-massage with cool oils like coconut or sunflower oil, performed before a bath, can pacify Pitta and induce a sense of calmness. Following a bedtime routine like cutting out screen time an hour before sleep, and engaging in relaxing activities like reading or listening to soft music is important.

If these do not seem effective over time, it’s important to seek guidance from an Ayurvedic practitioner, they can offer more tailored solutions after an in-depth understanding of your prakriti and vikruti. Remember it can take time to see significant improvements, so patience and persistence is your best friend.
