Dr. Meenakshi
I am currently working as an Associate Professor and Ayurvedic Consultant at a reputed Ayurvedic medical college in Karnataka. My dual role in academics and clinical practice allows me to stay deeply connected with both the foundational principles of Ayurveda and their real-world application in patient care. With years of experience in teaching and treating patients, I have developed a strong grounding in classical Ayurvedic texts as well as hands-on expertise in managing a wide spectrum of health conditions. In my academic role, I am involved in mentoring undergraduate and postgraduate students, guiding them through theoretical understanding, clinical training, and practical application of Ayurvedic medicine. I actively participate in departmental research, workshops, and case discussions, fostering a learning environment that emphasizes both scientific inquiry and traditional wisdom. As a consultant, I provide holistic Ayurvedic care for chronic lifestyle disorders, musculoskeletal problems, women’s health issues, gastrointestinal diseases, and skin disorders. My treatment plans are deeply personalized, based on a thorough assessment of Prakriti (body constitution) and Vikriti (imbalance), integrating herbal medicine, Panchakarma therapies, dietary advice, and preventive health strategies. I strongly believe in the importance of patient education and preventive care. Whether I am managing a complex condition or offering day-to-day wellness support, my aim is always to treat the root cause and promote long-term healing. I also collaborate with fellow practitioners and students to stay updated with advancements in Ayurvedic research and contribute meaningfully to the field. My commitment lies in offering authentic, evidence-based, and compassionate Ayurvedic care while nurturing the next generation of Ayurveda professionals with the same values.

To address a stubborn cough and strengthen your respiratory system, Ayurveda would first advise looking at the balance of the doshas, particularly Kapha, which when aggravated can cause a build-up of mucus in the chest. First, consider using an herbal remedy like Tulsi (Holy Basil). Tulsi is well-regarded in Ayurveda for its ability to support lung health. You can prepare a simple Tulsi tea by boiling a handful of fresh or dried leaves in water and sipping it a few times a day. Make sure the tea is warm but not too hot, as excessively hot substances may irritate your throat and chest. Additionally, Pippali (Long pepper) could be beneficial. It is known to help clear mucus and enhance lung function. You can take Pippali in powder form, about half a teaspoon mixed with a teaspoon of honey once or twice a day after meals. It's also important to address your diet and lifestyle. Since Kapha tends to increase with heavy, sweet, and cold foods, try to incorporate more warm, light, and spicy foods. Ginger, black pepper, and turmeric are great spices to incorporate into your meals. Ginger tea is another excellent choice for supporting lung health. Practicing Pranayama, particularly Bhastrika (Bellows Breath), can enhance your lung capacity and support respiratory health. Aim for 5-10 minutes of Pranayama daily, but start slow and increase as you feel comfortable. Remember to keep warm, as cold can aggravate the symptoms. Avoid dairy and excessive sugar as these can thicken mucus and worsen congestion. Stay hydrated by drinking warm water throughout the day, which may help thin mucus and ease the coughing. If your cough persists or worsens, it's crucial to consult a healthcare professional. Persistent cough could be a sign of an underlying condition that requires more immediate attention. This advice is to guide you and should complement a professional evaluation where necessary.
